Applicants to PDX area Nursing Schools 2010

Published

Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!

I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.

Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!! :banghead:

Good luck to everyone who applied!

some schools are very open to your suggestions and requests, don't know how PCC is. I would say "let them know what you want!" i think patho at MHCC used to be online but due to student requests i believe they have switched back to being face to face. or a combination of the 2.... they are also restricted by budget and available classroom space, so that plays into it too. ask for what you want and you just might get it.

For the PT program at MHCC I know an interviewee who was just told last week that Patho is entirely online. FYI.

I only ruled MHCC out of my application process because it is really far away for me to go, and because they didn't give me credit for my CNA or Work experience because their cutoff was really high (compared to other schools). Not having a previous degree I just didn't have discretionary points there so I didn't pay to apply. It also brings back memories of high school which wasn't a happy time in my life!! hehe.:lol2:

I didn't apply to Clackamas because my few run-ins with the nursing dept in my two years there convinced me that I couldn't put up with some aspects of it for two more years. They have a special combination of ineffecient + inflexible that would be impressive if it wasn't standing between me and my destination. They are so content "in the box" that they would deny that there is a box to think outside of. :D

PT and nursing take the same patho class? I only ask because the course is generally a Patho for Nursing class....didn't know how applicable it would be for PT (which I'm assuming is physical therapy students).

That is for the part time nursing program starting at MHCC next year.

I was invited to an interview at Clackamas from the interview alternate list.

Does anybody know how long will the interview/essay take. I am still trying to make arrangements at work.

Congratulations!

They say in their letter that the essay is 30 minutes and the interview is 60 minutes- so I would plan for an hour and a half total.

Thank you, EFreyer.

Thank you, EFreyer.

That's great larisagarret31! Congrats! They did say an hour and a half, I would give two to have some time to calm down when you get there ;-) good luck!!!!

Thank you, Tiffinapit.

I am listening to Afrojazz and crying right now, trying to calm myself down.

To those who already had interviews or going to have one:

Do you plan to wear business attire?

I would treat it like any other interview you would go on and maintain a professional attitude through out the whole process. Good luck and I am really happy to hear that you got called off the "booty call" list!
