I sat for a planned drug test as a new hire, who consented to positive results being reported to IPN. I tested positive for a low amount of THC. No questions asked. Reported to IPN. Waiting for my official letter from the medical review officer so that I can call IPN. I have consulted a Lawyer as well. Any information or idea how IPN responds to nurses who are applicants that tested positive for THC; such as will I have a Narc restriction? I lived in New Orleans and worked as a ICU nurse for two years. Moved to florida, where I'm from, and this happened to me. Also should I contact IPN before received my IPN case number? Any advice, help would be greatly appreciated. If I don't have the narc restriction will they let me go back to ICU? My manager in New Orleans, is willing to take me back, I just can't have a narc restriction in the ICU obviously. Anyone have experience with testing positive for THC? Obviously, had I been smoking I would not have scheduled my urine test or would have done a flush like I was told I should have. please help.

Just curious - did you test positive from 2nd hand smoke? I may never go to a concert again if that is the case!
No idea. But if i had been smoking, I wouldn't have sat for a drug test that I could have rescheduled. No history of addiction in me or my family. I'm vegan, don't put anything synthetic or harmful in me either. I own a yoga studio also and that is my stress relief.
I once read that poppy seeds could cause you to test positive. Like on a muffin? I am sorry that this happens. It sucks that you have to go through this if you didn't do it!
There is a reason it happened. It may be that I end up going to law school and change this system

You indicate in your post that you were told you should have done a flush. That indicates that something was not at par for a clean test and you were aware and concerned about it. I certainly hope this is resolved for you.

This is funny and confusing. People cannot test positive unless they did the drugs. You say you were told you should have done a flush, strange. No one ever told me that nor would i have though of it because I do not do drugs or go near them.
Someone mentioned poppy seeds, which I have heard of poppy seeds from muffins/bread and the use of afrin causing false positive for different types of drug test. It is also said you had to have eaten bags and bags of poppy seeds and used bottles and bottles of afrin, so doesnt make sense.

Poppy seeds have occasionally in the past caused people to show positive for opiates, not THC.
And for that matter, most modern drug tests will not have the same problem with poppy seeds showing positive for opiates.
My question is why was the OP told to do a flush, if they had had no contact with illegal substances.

To the OP: we wish you the best but this is just not a question we can answer as each BON deals with the issue on an individual basis.
