Apple IWatch and nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello nurses,

My wife just became a nurse and he birthday is coming up. I wanted to get her a watch that she can wear everyday. I know she mentioned before that she need to constantly wash her hands. The iwatch is also not waterproof, rather water resistant. You can wash your hands without any problems. With that said, would it be okay for her to wear in the hospital? Do any of you wear one and can you reccomend it?

thank you!

What a nice and thoughtful gift! As long as your wife works in a setting that allows watches [most do] a smart watch is a great idea. I regularly use the timer to remind myself of time sensitive tasks. It's also nice to have notifications popping up on my wrist, now I can tell at a glance if a call or text is something that needs to be responded to when I get a chance or if it can be ignored. A water resistant model is a must as you are right, we wash our hands a lot! I don't think she would need to be any more concerned about scratches than with any regular watch, I bang mine on stuff about daily and haven't had any problems yet.

Just so she is aware, if the watch isn't close enough to the iPhone to stay connected the notifications and other "smart" features like weather updates and other apps probably won't work but all the regular watch features should work just fine. Easy fix is to just keep the phone in a uniform pocket so they never lose their connection.

I can't stand wearing watches at work. In the ER I get sometimes elbow deep in stuff. Even with ppe I get blood or whatever on my wrists.

For that reason I adore my pendant watch. Search on amazon.

For the record, Apple doesn't make an iwatch, their watch is called Apple Watch ;)

Im a watch guy and I still prefer the $5 walmart jobs that you don't mind throwing away.

I like my Apple Watch when I fly aeromedical. I have access to my notes without having to pull my phone out.

I have the middle priced one ( the 549.00 model) and I don't use a cover and it has done ok. In the then middle priced one that I have as the stonger glass but not sure you can check the apple website for sure
