I am 6 months out from graduating...I have to say I am usually a sharp student and critical thinker. Nursing school was not ridiculously hard, I had a study like everyone else but not near the amount of hours, I had a new baby during my RN bridge program and managed to pass everything and stay on schedule with my classes despite having my baby on holiday break (lucky timing).
I have been a nurse for 10 yrs now, between being an LPN and an RN and am now almost done with an FNP program.
I took the APEA predictor as a first assignment for my final 30 week course, and I scored a 65%. I feel sooo defeated.
I'm wondering what anyone's experience is for this? I have a friend who scored a 73 on theirs, but failed their boards. I have been studying Leik, FNP mastery, as well as the Fitzgerald beast book.
Anyone score below the 70% mark but still pass their exam? I am planning to test for the AANP. I definitely have the jitters like most FNP students. This program I have literally poured every waking moment of studying and question taking for the last 2.5 years... HALP!!
@disheartenednps Hello, just want to ask if you need to redo the clinicals after failing APEA. How does the repeat course work?
@discouraged1989 Thanks for your response. Did they give you instruction already? They do not allow another retake of exam? Also, graduation is on hold until pass I assume?
So, im not at WG, but a friend of mine was. She got a 73 on her predictor and failed her boards. I went to UOP, and they only require a 62 ans you take it 6 mo before graduation and then one month before graduation. I scored 65 the first time. Then 64 the second at end of term and graduated no problem. I took one on my own and scored a 69 about a week later. I then passed my boards 2 weeks later first attempt with the AANP in about an hour.
If they make you fail out, maybe consider switching schools of that's even possible? Uop had been amazing my entire program and stressed the predictor really isn't that predictive of anything except anxiety.
I have read about similar situations regarding the boards. A lot of people say they did OK on APEA and then failed boards. I have not received much instruction other than what I shared. It seems you basically pay for the course again and pay for a review class as well. So it seems like a very expensive problem to me.
That's terrible, I am very thankful for how our school ran the curriculum. They were very realistic. I can say the apea review in person course was the best thing. My exam had questions exactly how they were in my review booklet and they they educated us in which guidelines had changed and how to answer those questions specifically.
My school used APEA and many students have failed because of scoring less than 70% on the predictor exam. I took the APEA live review, purchased and did the practice exam, I have the book and some of the other materials. I even purchased the audio recordings, which is just the recording of a live session. None of it helped me! I wasn't able to retain anything. I was able to pass and graduate after repeating a term after utilizing other review sources and materials. To pass the boards, I used Sarah Michelle videos (there are free ones on YouTube), but I bought a package, bought the Maria Leik, did the live review. I also supplemented with Brittani, NP reviews from YouTube and Patreon (her Patreon is cheapest review I've seen. I think it has continuing education credits, especially if you have to retake the board.

so you have to sit through the APEA review 2 day thing again and do practice questions. they make you upload previous soaps and clinical hours but thats it - again this is for west coast university.

Has anyone else done their FNP through WCU and had the same experience? I'm just wondering if I will have to retake the semester or if they will allow me to take a review course and redo the exam again. I am super frustrated and I feel totally defeated!
I go to WCU, I am in the repeat course. First predictor: 65, second 68. In this repeat term 69 for first attempt, and I have till Wednesday for the fourth. It is very frustrating given that WCU implemented this last minute.

So when you had to rso the course, what was involved. Obviously no hours to complete. Did you have to do more SOAP notes or just videos and exams? Also, did you pay more? Can you email me the details? No one is responding. [email protected]
