Anyone working nurse labeled a Non-Responder with vaccines?

Published

I just recently got accepted to a nursing program and will be a student starting spring 2016.

While going through my routine tests (all the Titers) , I found out that I am a non-responder to the vaccinations that are required in nursing school. ( Basically I don't respond to any vaccinations and don't have immunity) The school said it wouldn't be a problem while I am in school, but I am wondering if I will have issues getting employed out of nursing school due to the condition I have.

Is there anyone out there also a non-responder to vaccinations that is currently working in the field? I know with all the regulations out there, there may be a problem.

Any real time advice on how to handle this situation?

Thank you~~

Thank you for your reply. Here's my problem. I'm 52 years old, before some of the immunizations existed! I lost my shot records years ago. I have a new shot record now. I have done all my prerequisites. Being a nonresponder will I even be able to rank? That's my main question. Will I be seen as a liability and not actually accepted into the nursing program?

The only titer I really had to show was varicella, because I never had the vaccine, I had chicken pox before it came out. For everything else, proof of my vaccines was sufficient.

Most places just ask for vaccination records, not titers. In those cases, no one would know you are a non responder.

Forgive my ignorance, but this is a thing??? Is this why I've needed to have an MMR multiple times (once as a new grad, once postpartum)? Sorry if I'm an idiot but I seriously didn't realize this was something...makes sense that it is, when I think about it. Sorry, mind blown... :D
