Hi, I'm new to this site!! I would like to know if anyone here works at Elmhurst Hospital Center, and if so, what floor?
I am starting work there in a little more than week, and the commute/parking/overall atmosphere of the place is overwhelming. I am also going to work on the Labor and Delivery Unit (I'm a new grad!!...man am I anxious)...so, any help? Any tips, any experience you would like to share? Anything would be great to read!!
Thank you!

Hi, I live in Elmhurst and am a new grad also. I have been applying there (I graduated BSN in January and room nclex in April) since April but no luck though I have previous health related job experience and certifications IV/ACLS/NRP, and am bilingual also. What you advise to get an interview and job there? As for Elmhurst, I have been a patient there. It's an community hospital and most patients are medicaid insured. In L and D, most of the patients will be Latin American or Asian and so speaking/understanding a few key phrases helps. As for the neighborhood it is safe and not far from subway. If you have trouble with parking, its easy to commute VIA subway.
I looked up the elmhurst hospital website and saw the nurse recruiter's name (******, but make sure you check the spelling). I emailed her, because that's all the website said to do if you're seeking employment. She surprisingly replied within a week of me emailing her. I was hired same day...lol it all happened so fast, not sure why they hired me that quickly when I don't even have experience. I am a new grad and just recently got licensed (last month)...I think perhaps I wrote a professional email to her and I think maybe that's why she called me back. My resume honestly offers nothing...lol that's all I can say. Thanks for your help!!
Thanks for the advice. I will try emailing different hospitals' recruiters to their direct email b/c HR general email gives no results. I know a few may be open to that while others just ignore it. I tried walking in my resume and letter to several places in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn before I started my current job as RN in homecare. But each walk-in resulted in the receptionist saying "the recruiter is not available. I can pass the resume on to recruiter but you should apply online". Like really, they think I haven't already applied online before walking into HR? LOL. Anyways congrats on the position and let me know if you have any other questions on elmhurst.
I'm starting the job in a week, and I would like to use the parking garage. But when I called during the daytime (if it even was the correct number....). Do you happen to know about that parking garage that is right next to the hospital? I have no idea how I could maybe pay ahead of time (NOW), so I could have a month of parking for myself. That is the only thing I'm worried about with this job, the commute/parking. I have night shift :0 so I especially would not like to park on the streets.
I know you mentioned the subway would be useful but do you happen to know about the parkign garage too? Thanks :) I wouldn't mind using the subway though..

How did you find out the name of the nurse recruiter? I went on their website, and see an email address, but it looks very general. Please let me know! Congrats on the job!

Yes the parking garage is next to the hospital and the subway is also very convenient, like 2-3 blocks either direction

dingobutt-do you have a bsn or an adn?
I emailed the recruiter almost 6 weeks ago but no response. I've been applying online also. But no luck. I have BSN, certifications and 6 months experience as RN in home care and previous health care work experience (not nursing). And my coverletter and resume have no grammar/spelling mistakes and were proofread. I also have no connections in any hospital.
However, I know people with BSN but no experience or connections who have gotten jobs with HHC including Elmhurst just 4 months after taking NCLEX. It seems NYC RN jobs are all about luck really (people with no experience and no connections have gotten hired by Mt Sinai and other hospitals also) because nothing you can do is guaranteed to work. Just keep applying online and maybe you are part of the lucky people in the batch of applications that gets called in to interview.

So it's been a year, how is it working at Elmhurst, in the L&D Dept? I've always wanted to work there. I've applied to numerous postings and have gotten no response.
