I am now playing the waiting game. Applied to only 1 school for Spring of 2012, finished my pre-req's with a 3.7 GPA and passed the NLN in the 94 percentile. Now Im waiting to hear whether or not I got in. Advisor said decision would be made middle of this month with letters going out end of this month. These weeks seem to be dragging. I feel confident I got in with my scores but who knows how everyone else did. So there is always that doubt.
Just looking for some company for those playing the waiting game too.
It was thick! It had an acceptance letter and my practice test for my calculations exam that I have to score a 100% on in order to start the program!
WOW, they dont play. Calculation exam even before you start! I hope you do well! My envelope was a large one because they sent my health forms and background check forms along with my acceptance letter which I appreciated. I really like this school. It was my first choice.
I got my letter yesterday. Got chosen as an alternate. Kinda bummed about it. But fingers crossed somebody doesn't take their seat and I can get in. Stinks after the wait to get a letter, I have to wait some more. But I will move forward either way and just try again. Congrats to everyone that got in! And to those that didnt, hang in there! The day will come!
I just got my letter a few mins ago, I was accepted into the Nursing program starting this January!!! Im so excited, I read the letter to my daughter! Now I get to prepare!!!!!!!! YES!!:hug:
I'm going to apply to Stritch too, what can you tell us about your experience with the NLN PAX RN?
it wasnt nearly as difficult as i thought it would be but i studied for like 2 months for it. im a bookworm so i didnt really study for the english portion at all and ended up scoring highest in that section. science was my biggest worry since it covered so many subjects, but i made flashcard and used khansacademy to help me. here are my posts from another thread where i broke down what i saw in the nln:
"finally took this today. verbal was pretty good, a few words i didnt know, but not many. feel confident in that section. math was the worse, and it wasnt because i didnt know how to do the problems, simply ran out of time. i finally went through, did the easiest ones right away and went back and did as many of the harder ones as i could. still ended up guessing on about 6 of them due to lack of time which sucks. but they throw out twenty so lets hope they were part of that twenty. science wasnt nearly as bad as i thought it would be. i went in expecting complicated physics questions and balancing chemistry equations but i didnt have any of that.
had 1 electrical diagram question(guessed), a few on the eyes, 3 on waves, one ohm's question, the newton question about how much a typical adult weights, some graphs, question on a isotope, food web, . it was very basic stuff, nothing crazy. i felt pretty confident about that section, but who knows, i could be feeling confident and end up with 20 out of 60, lol. so now i play the waiting game. results are no longer mailed, they are posted on the nln website online. so glad i am done with this."
"science = the questions for the charts were really obvious from looking at the charts, focus on knowing the terms in the science section. know that:
1 lb = 4.45 newtons. so if the question asks you how many pounds a average child or adult is, take a common weight and times it by that. for adults its usually 500 newtons. know your food wed, isotopes (what it is, ect). i spent most of my time studying science, so i was happily surprised by how basic it was.
for math, concentrate on fractions, decimals, percentages. i memorized all the geometry equations but i only ended up using 2. the biggest problem with math is the lack of time. no matter how fast i multiplied and divided, i still wasnt fast enough and ended up guessing on 10, hence why i got a 76 percentile for it. i am terrible at math, always have been, so for me to get a 76 was a huge accomplishment, lol. i did every test in the book over and over, and marked the ones i did wrong, then did those repeatedly. so even though i knew how to do most of the problems in the section, i simply didnt have enough time. time is your enemy here so be careful."
my scores were:
verbal = # of items (60)
% correct score (81%)
relative performance (92)
math = # of items (40)
% correct score (70%)
relative performance (76)
science = # of items (60)
% correct score (71%)
relative performance (91)
hope that helps, let me know if you have anymore questions!

They figure that to be a nurse, you need to be confident in your calculations. They give you I think twice or maybe even three times to make a 100, but if you don't and someone that was wait listed has, they'll take your place. I'm currently in Medical Dosages now and the first exam we had is exactly like the first calculations test for the program, so I've been studying those two (the practice exam they sent and my actual exam). My program's pass rate two years ago for first time NCLEX was 100%, the year before that 96%. They don't play around here!
I meet with my new advisor for the program this week and from there, he'll give me all of my health forms and all the other standard stuff. Exciting times!
What's your program like? Is it an every day thing?
Accepted into my first choice BSN Program for Spring, 2012... I have my Orientation this Friday...So freaking excited.... I got into an ADN program as well, and I think I will get into my second choice BSN program... I'll be rejecting those, so I hope some hopeful waitlster will get my spot in those schools! Can't wait to get started!

I understand that completely. The second guessing yourself part is probably the hardest thing. The mind seems to love torturing us, LOL. Hang in there!
