Hi,

Yes I did use the Zerwekh book, but as a supplement to my main NCLEX-RN prep book, which was Prentice Hall's Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-RN by Mary Ann Hogan. I did think the Zerwekh text was good, and I used the CD for more NCLEX question practice.

Didn't use it for the NCLEX but I did use her review book to study for the FNP boards and I thought it was excellent!

Haven't heard of this one. One of my nursing school instructors sat on the disciplinary board in CA and we got some good stories as well as a chance to visit a disciplinary hearing when we were in school. Learned more from this instructor than in most of the other classes. Another instructor was one of those who wrote NCLEX questions. Always good to have access to someone who has been in the trenches.

BTW, don't throw that Hogan book out. I use it for a memory jog... some areas are pretty detailed.

I don't know about this book. However I just took the NCLEX on July 6th--passed with just 75 questions. Several fellow students failed. How did I do it, you ask?

Kaplan's expensive ($499.) 4 day very intense on-line class and utilized the additional information that they provided--practice quizes, hard copy book, decision tree, etc, etc. Their guarantee is what sold it to me.

Was it worth it you ask? Hey passed on the first go. What more could I ask?

same here. I figured either I pay $499 and pass the first time. or i fail and get all my money back.

I didn't even read the entire purple book that Kaplan gives out. Nor did I finish doing all the practice tests. I think I did 4. But I did make sure I did every single last question in the Q-Bank! I did it by sections, made sure I read each rationale (I made notes but never really went back to them). Then I would do that section again but click the options to show only ones I hadnt yet done plus ones I got wrong. I did this until I got every single one right. Then I'd do the whole section (all questions) again. After i did 2 sections I would combine and take them. EVERY LAST QUESTION + reading all rationales every time.

Of course I still cried when I got back to my car after taking boards. I felt like I didn't recognize anything, and was sure I failed, but CRITICAL THINKING is what they really want out of you. And a few days later I saw my name on the BRN website :)
