I was wondering if anyone out there has done the Excelsior in Ohio or are currently enrolled. Does the state have restrictions like other states? I am trying to decide if I should do the EC program. I'm very self motivated and learn great as a solo learner. I would just like some additional info/advice.

Hi Rylee228,
I'm currently using Excelsior to go from and LPN to Rn. Right now, I'm taking my Humanities courses. I had already taken many of the courses at a college here; but, the advisors wanted students to go to school full-time and work part-time. I am the bread winner in the family so I have to work full-time. Excelsior accepted all my credits: Eng, A&P, Micro, Chem, etc except my Humanities course. I found out about Excelsior from a co-worker who had just graduated. She now works as a full-fledged RN in the ED I work in. Oh, yeh, and I live in Ohio. I haven't heard of any restrictions, and I know several LPN's who are doing the same thing as I am. I hope this was helpful; and I wish you so much good luck!!!
Thanks moodychick! All information is helpful. So did you just contact Excelsior and deal right with them or did you go with a publishing company (college network, etc.)? I was told by college network that all my credits satisfy the general courses (of course I'll have to verify that with EC). I just met with college network for an information session but didn't sign with them yet. I wanted to do a little research first to see if I even need their help. Thanks

I am an Excelsior grad that has been practicing in Ohio for over a year. I had no problems obtaining my nursing license in Ohio, except that they lost my background check results. I went directly through Excelsior and would suggest anyone consdiering Excelsior do the same.

I'm in northeast ohio and am currently enrolled. I only have to take the nursing courses since I took everything else at a local college. I just finished NC1, and am having a little trouble with study motivation right now, but I plan on taking NC2 at the end of next month. Good luck!
I, too, am in Northwestern Ohio. I am planning to contact EC this week to see how I can get started. I'm pretty certain I will only need the Nursing portion since I have also taken all others at local college. I guess I can verify all that with EC. Thanks to all who've replied. Does anyone think it's beneficial to buy used books online (even those condensed guides such as college network, etc.)? Or, does EC material give you all the info you need?
The first test I bought all the books for and went through the EC study guide. I got a C, and it took a while to go through the books. This time, I spent $36 and bought the college network NC2 study guide on ebay. I'm still going to go through the books, but just skim them, I'll use the network study guide as my primary source of studying.

Rylee,
I too am a LPN in Northeast Ohio. Checked with the BON and Ohio has no restrictions on EC grads. You can go to the EC web site and fill out a application for enrollment. The fee was $65.00. Forward your transcripts and they will give you a good idea of what is needed. You can take NC1 and NC2 (if needed) before you actually enroll. Enrollment fee is around $700.00 and is good for a year. As far as Study guides.... I bought all of mine off of Ebay for pennies on the dollar. For me the convenience is worth it. You can get the required texts from EC too. For me, the hardest part is staying motivated and focused. Good Luck.:studyowl:
