Anyone Up For Random FACT THROWING??

Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.

Updated:

OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!

SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:

OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:

1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.

2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.

3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves

4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate

5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.

Oh, ohh, one more...

? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone

OK your turn....

I can definitely sympathize with you! I just finished taking my test and I have no idea what to think. My test also stopped at 75 questions. I had questions about drugs I had never even heard of! A few SATAs...I would say about 10 or so, a TON of prioritizing, some teaching and infection control questions. I was only 100% sure of maybe 6 or 7 questions and 100% unsure of a couple. For the rest I was always debating between two options so hopefully I made the right choices!! Now I wait.....the next 48 hours are going to be torture :uhoh3:

STILL GROUCHY BUT NOT HAPPY

I took 2 tylenols to get thru the test.

Had 24 SATAs, yes i counted them. i gues they keep coming if you are not getting them right.

5 meds, just meds you see on TV, nothing big, except what they wanted me to teach

1 drug calculation

3-4 psych stuff

1-2 disease that we cant pronounce

Lotsa infections, teaching priorities, delegating to a floater

My last question straight from Exam Cram. Yes do look at those rationales.

I had 75 questions

Hello there! I don't want to give you false hope, but the fact you got 24 SATAs, may indicate that you've been doing exceptionally well. My friend from school who recently passed the NCLEX with 75 questions, got 25 SATAs and she was one of our best student... You don't get many SATAs b/c you've been getting wrong previous SATAs. Actually you get many SATAs b/c you are killing the test! I only got 10 SATAs and passed with 75 questions. After the test I already knew that I knailed it! You got 24 SATAs... In my mind you have already passed! Seriously...

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

If someone has some tips on burn care and other skin related I'd appreciate it???

Emphysema = barrel chest, "pink puffer", flarring of nostrils, dypnea

Bronchitis = "blue bloater", productive cough, uses accessory muscles to breath

COPD = low flow oxygen, encourage pursed lip breathing

If I were you Grouchybuthappy, I would go out and celebrate.:yeah: Regardless of what the results may or may not be. Glad to hear this thread is helpful. Always wonder if this is helpful or distraction? Meaning will reading & contributing actually help with boards or distract me from the books I should be reading more?

Ok, back to the facts:

Propoxyphene ( Darvon ) contains aspirin. Take with food to prevent GI upset or take with lot of fluids. It is a narcotic analgesic.

Phenytoin ( Dilantin ) is an anticonvulsant with a theraputic range of 10-20 ug?ml

Watch for gingival hyperplasia, tell pt. about good oral hygiene with this med.

Can also be used to tx dysrhythmias. Put pt. on seizure precautions. USE WITH CAUTION if pt is also taking anticoagulants, sulfonamides, tagamet, antipsychotics.

Botox can also be used for strabismus. ( someone can correct my spelling, please )

To answer your question: Keep doing what you are doing. I really liked your posts and one of your posts was really helpful.Nclex is not specific. They get stuff from all over. You have to bring your knowledge about disease processes together.

i learnt a whole bunch of stuff on this thread that was really helpful. I realised that when people actually post something, there is a reason why they feel everybody should know that.I will semi retire for the next 48 hours.

Basically, I just guess. Going back to my previous exam I rememeber my instructor saying," NCLEX can ask you anything. They want to make sure you have a good knowledge base to provide safe care to your patients. " So that is how I select what I write. I figure a little of everything. :D I want to be ready when it's my turn and honestly those SATA questions scare the beejeebers out of me. I keep thinking, what if I miss including just 1 of the teaching points?

Ok, back to the facts. Any skin facts out there? Burns, acne tx, etc? I spilled coffee on my notes. Can read some, but........................

I just stumbled on a site for NCLEX review ....it has alot of different subjects (using powerpoints), and practice testing........here is the link:

Took NCLEX this AM....went into it expecting it to be really tricky and difficult (that way, I'd be more at ease and relaxed when I saw the easier ones). Calmed my nerves by singing in my car to some LOUD music at 7:30 AM and psyching myself up (Honestly, I looked like I'd gone bananas) . I weighed the pros and cons of being so nervous that my mental faculties shut down and I failed...so I decided to kick the nerves to the curb and I marched into the Pearson Vue office with my ID and ATT and said out loud " GatorNurse08, it's JUST a test. What's the worse that can happen? You fail? You take it again, life goes on..."

** 75 Questions

** Upwards of 23 SATAs...

** 1 OB question, WEIRD psych questions 2-3...like bizarre weird...

** ZERO MATH?!??!! Huhn?!?!? I still don't get it, no math question whatsoever...no hotspot either... no ordered response...don't know whether that's reassuring or not... just multiple choice and a butt load of SATAs

** All the meds I saw, I knew, except one random one. I'm a med-geek though, I've been this way ever since nursing school started so I guess it payed off, hopefully *crosses fingers* But the patient teaching part was a lil tricky. I just erred on the side of caution and picked the choice that would be most threatening to the patient since patient safety is #1.

** There was one random disease SATA that was mentioned in the Random Fact Throwing: Rare Diseases thread I started...I was a happy camper seeing that question.

** I felt well prepared for the Infection Control questions by drilling myself with the help of that Yale Website... I'll swear by it. (http://info.med.yale.edu/ynhh/infection/). ESPECIALLY focusing on the diseases that you think would require a certain type of precautions but are just standard....I felt prepared for the delegation/assigments/priority questions with that Laharti book (I'll swear by it as well)..went to Barnes and Nobles and did a couple chapters from it for about a week.. very helpful !

** There were those questions that I was just like..."For real? Like, are you serious NCLEX?!! What in the world are you asking me? And is this really of any significance to my anticipated career as a professional nurse?" Trying to decode the question was a challenge so I just went with my gut and picked an answer...I expected LEFT-FIELD crap like that, it's the NCLEX though, and I guess it comes with the territory...

OVERALL... I know for a fact I got alot right, and I know for a fact I got alot wrong with all those darn SATAs. So I don't know for a fact that I passed. The wait hasn't been bad for me. There's no use worrying, I told myself that from the beginning. Got a long-awaited 1 hour massage post-NCLEX...if I had to re-take the exam, I really don't even know where I'd begin to study. Say a prayer for GatorNurse08 tonight...

only problem is, i now have TWO addictive sites to deal with, along with Saunders. Is there a point where one may OD on NCLEX-prep?? If so, i fear i am rapidly reaching it!! What is the antidote??......... My son just told me i went from having my head in books all the time to staring at this computer screen all the time - Seeing as he used to not see my face at all, and now at least sees the back of my head, i think we are making progress in that respect!!
