Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.
Updated:
OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!
SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:
OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:
1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.
2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.
3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves
4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate
5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.
Oh, ohh, one more...
? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone
OK your turn....
Cocokat, always appreciate additional info. I liked the way you put it. Best way to remember, repeat and hear it or read it in more than one way.
Diverticulosis is just multiple outpouches of the colon. When they are inflammed/irritated they are called diverticulitis. Men get this more often, and in the obese. Give diet high-residue but with NO SEEDS/STEMS for diverticulosis, but if it progresses to diverticulitis diet is low-residue.
Drug Tx: bulk laxitives, stool softeners, antibiotic, anticholinergic.
May need surgical repair/resection of the diseased portion of colon with temp colostomy.
Teach pt. the sx of peritonitis.

5 meds, just meds you see on TV, nothing big, except what they wanted me to teach
1 drug calculation
3-4 psych stuff
1-2 disease that we cant pronounce
Lotsa infections, teaching priorities, delegating to a floater
My last question straight from Exam Cram. Yes do look at those rationales.
I had 75 questions

whoaaaa! I feel u...I had my exam last Monday...I got 7 SATA...and most of those SATA were meds...1 drug calc...and priorities...my test was probably 50% meds:cry: ...and it stopped at 75...I'm still waiting on my result...i'm kinda nervous:confused:
Grouchybutnothappy, cheer up, 75 questions and SATAs are good sign. My buddy at work had more SATA and passed. Were the SATA questions all different or were they each on a totally different topic? SATA questions are " supposedly " the higher level questions that indicate you know your stuff. That is what I keep reading on other threads. Last time I took NCLEX I only got multiple choice so I am extra nervous now. ( they did not have SATA back then )
One simple yes or no question. Is this thread helpful?
Melinurse,
they were from different areas. Some even medications. my 3rd one was SATA. i even got 4 in a row. some were not really hard but you know for presenting signs and symptoms, sometimes sometimes you forget.
i somehow felt i was going to stop at 75, for some reason i wanted to go on. i had 2 or 3 easy ones at 69 and then i kinda bumped up to real hard ones. but thats just my opinion.
Lots of infection disease, teaching, priorities. DO DO THOSE.
BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS THREAD HAS BEEN AN EYE OPENER AND AN INSIPIRATION.
the last few threads were VERY HELPFUL, THANK YOU
i found this thread 2 days b4...i started reading and i got addicted to it..lol...here's some stuff to remember:
gtpal
gravida- total number of pregnancies (aborted or alive)
term- fullterm, pregnancies that reached 38weeks gest.
para(preterm)- number of pregnancies that actaully reached 20-37th wks gest.
aborted- number of pregnancies that didn't reached 20weeks gest...this could be either by option or by missed
living - number of babies actually survive after all tha gravida ..(note that gravida could be a larger number than living children

i know i wasn't the one being asked here but i have to share my opinion....yes...this thread does help...esp, knowing the disease that weren't common...i got two of those disease on my questions:stone
If I were you Grouchybuthappy, I would go out and celebrate. Regardless of what the results may or may not be. Glad to hear this thread is helpful. Always wonder if this is helpful or distraction? Meaning will reading & contributing actually help with boards or distract me from the books I should be reading more?
Ok, back to the facts:
Propoxyphene ( Darvon ) contains aspirin. Take with food to prevent GI upset or take with lot of fluids. It is a narcotic analgesic.
Phenytoin ( Dilantin ) is an anticonvulsant with a theraputic range of 10-20 ug?ml
Watch for gingival hyperplasia, tell pt. about good oral hygiene with this med.
Can also be used to tx dysrhythmias. Put pt. on seizure precautions. USE WITH CAUTION if pt is also taking anticoagulants, sulfonamides, tagamet, antipsychotics.
Botox can also be used for strabismus. ( someone can correct my spelling, please )

here is what i have for today:
twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome-only occurs in same sex, monozygotic twins with monochorionic placenta. it is the result of intrauterine blood transfusion from one twin to another. one fetus steals blood from the other. without proper intervention, this can result in either or both fetal demise from lack of nutrients, oxygen, and blood components that exchange back and forth from the umbilical cord to the fetus.
