Anyone Up For Random FACT THROWING??

Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.

Updated:

OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!

SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:

OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:

1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.

2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.

3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves

4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate

5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.

Oh, ohh, one more...

? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone

OK your turn....

can some one pliz recommend delegation& prioritization book for nclex review. someone in this thread had suggested Lahati prioritization book has anyone got that?

Dear Sirisiri,

I have two books on the subject of your interest, amiga. However, I do not know if one of the books is the same author, but I will tell, anyway. :D Best, feliz3

1) Prioritization, Delegation Assignment, Practice Exercises for Medical-Surgical Nursing by Linda A. LaCharity, Candice K. Kumagi and Barbara Bartz

the publisher is Mosby, Elsevier, 2006.

2) 101 Essential Questions for the RN-to-Be! NCLEX-RN Review-Including Priority and Delegation by Rhonda Gums-Savain and Derrice Jordan. the publisher is Author-House 2005

Both books are quite good I got them online via Amazon.com. Each book cost me $23.00. I think it is well invested money if the books help me to pass the NCLEX. I hope this information helps you, Sirisiri. feliz3

This is for you :stdnrsrck:

Now the business for the day:

  • albumin, main plasma protein, its value is increased due to:

a) dehydration

b) diarrhea

c) metastatic carcinoma

  • normal value of albumin = 3.4-5.0 g/dl

  • albumin value is decreased due to:

a) acute infection

b) ascites

c) alcoholism

  • presence of detectable albumin or protein in the urine is indicative of abnormal renal function

  • total serum protein value = 6.0-8.0 g/dl

  • when testing for albumin value perform the venipuncture on an extremity that does not have an IV infusion

  • alkaline phosphotase (ALP) is an enzyme normally found in bone, liver, intestine and placenta.

  • ALP value increases due to:

a) bone growth

b) liver disease

c) bile duct obstruction

  • Hepatotoxic meds used in diabetes mellitus, lipid lowering meds, antibiotics, etc. given to a client 12 hours before a specimen collection can cause a falsely elevated ALP value.

  • Amylase and lipase are both pancreatic enzymes: amylase is inolved in the digestion of complex carbohydrates and lipase is involved in the digestion of fats.

  • in acute pancreatitis the amylase level is greatly increased and starts raisin 3-6 hours after the onset of pain, peaks in 24 hours, then returns to normal value in 2-3 days.

  • Amylase normal value is 25-151 units/L

  • Elevated lipase levels occur in pancreatic disorders and the elevation may not occur until 24-36 hours after the onset of ilness. Lipase value may remain increased up to 14 days. Normal value of lipase = 10-140 units/L

  • Hematocrit measures blood cell mass and its value is used for diagnosing anemia and polycytemia (abnormal proliferation of RBCs)

  • Increased hemoconcentration due to dehydration leads to increased hemoglobin value

  • heart failure and COPD may increase hemoglobin value for the bodie's needs of increased Oxygen carrying capacity

Thanks, feliz3
