Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.
Updated:
OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!
SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:
OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:
1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.
2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.
3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves
4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate
5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.
Oh, ohh, one more...
? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone
OK your turn....

I have main Saunders,Complete course online of Kaplan,3500 online questions,I bought a book: Prioritization,Delegation&Assignment.
as I,it's different. I fail my first on 03,July. This is my second tried. One month ago I charged my working schedule from f-t to p-t. It is you have to spend a lot of time to review books and practise questions.You have to remember details for everything.
Good luck to you!!
hi guys! im having difficulty understanding prio and dele for RN's.. i know that you can't delegate the nursing process to LPN/LVNS.. but i was answering some questions, and it says that LPN/LVN'S can assess and auscultate breath sounds? i don't really understand this.. so bottomline is,can the nurse delegate assessment to lvn's/lpn's who are stable?
LPN/LVN:
1.Assist with implementation of defined plan of care.
2.Perform procedures according to protocol.
3.Differentiate normal from abnormal.
4.Care for physiologically stable patients with predictable conditions.
5.Has knowledge of asepsis and dressing charges.
6.Ability to administer meds varies with educational background and state nurse practice act.
I hope these can help you understand a assignment.
BTW: LPN/LVN can not do blood infusion.
hello folks.. im new here and ive been lurking around and reading alot of helpful information here.. it actually motivates me... here is my situation.. i took the test last week of july and the computer stopped at 265 questions.. i found out that i didnt pass..i was really disheartened, felt stupid, and depressed so i took a month off..now im back reviewing and i need advice. ive been taking :
1) nclex 3500 and im averaging 60-70%
2) im doing bad on kaplan.. i have the old version and it gives you timed test total of 7 exams.. exams consist of 75,75,100,150,150,200,265 questions.. so far i did 3 test..results are:
a). 47% b). 57% c). 55% ...... im really worried maybe i forgot some of the content but im also stressed out and also distracted most of the times...
can anyone advice me on my regime....
here is my contribution btw:
respiratory:
-mantoux test for tb = doesnt differentiate between active and dormant
-choking = steps :
1). ask if pt can speak
2). perform abdominal thrust
3). activate er team
4). perform tongue jaw lift
5). open airway/ ventilate
6). give 5 abd. thrust
-crackles - heard on inspiration and sometimes clear w/ cough
-ronchi- heard on expiration and sometimes clear w/ cough
-wheeze - heard over inspiration and expiration

here are a couple of ways i remember things
[color=dimgray]* to increase venous blood flow legs up- act like the lines from the v are legs they are going up.
[color=dimgray]* to increase blood flow to the arteries- legs down- act like the long lines from the a are the legs pointing down
[color=dimgray]* never let monkeys eat bananas
[color=dimgray]neutrophils 50-60%.
[color=dimgray]lymphocytes 20-40%.
[color=dimgray]monocytes 2-6%.
[color=dimgray]eosinophils 1-4%.
[color=dimgray]basophils 0.5-1%
[color=#696969]or
[color=#696969]never let people between 50-70 have kids
[color=#696969]let people between 20-40 have kids
[color=#696969]kids act like monkeys between 2-6
[color=#696969]kids learn to eat well between 1-4
[color=#696969]we usually eat .5-1 banana
[color=#333333]na - salt is expensive now a days, it costs 135-148 per kilo. (135-148 meq/l)
[color=#333333]k - a bananas cost 3.50 to 5.50 a bunch (3.5-5.5 meq/l)
[color=#333333]chloride - since chloride regulates bp, here it goes...
[color=#333333]chloride said his bp is 108/98. (98-108 meq/l)
[color=#333333]hco3 (bicarbonate) - bicarbonate said ten years ago he was 22 now how old is he? 32. (22-32 meq/l)
[color=#333333]ca - my bones started to become strong when i was about 8-10 years old. (8.5-10.3 meq/l)
[color=#333333]mg - magnesium is always exercising his muscles every 1 1/2 - 2 hours. (1.4-2.1 meq)

congratulations!!!
pregnancy is not a contraindication for an mri except in first trimester
an adverse effect of the tamoxifen is hypercalcemia
mcdonald's rule: measurement of fundal height in centimeters, which should equal the number of weeks of gestation or be + 2 or -2 for a single fetus.
cholasma: irregular brown spots appearing on the face of some pregnant woman, called "mask of pregnancy"
hegar's sign: softening of the cervix, usually around the 7th week of pregnancy. not a positive indicator of pregnancy.
Can we say STICKY!!!!This is great because alot of times just knowing a little bit about something will help you make that crucial link! I'll come back for my five, I just wanted to say something silly about the hyperkalemia thing.
My lil trick: I think of a cartoon banana (K) waving under a tall tent.
And also w/Vasopressin think DIABETES INSIPIDUS!!!!
please, please... can you please explain to me the rationale behind what you said... "w/ Vasopressin think DIABETES INSIPIDUS"..
thanks alot for the explain..
