Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.
Updated:
OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!
SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:
OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:
1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.
2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.
3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves
4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate
5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.
Oh, ohh, one more...
? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone
OK your turn....
okay quick question:
When caring for a client with sickle cell crisis. What action do you take first?
a. adminster prescribed pain medication
b. prevent ulcer formation
c. adminster prescribed antibiotics
d. maintain hydration
I guessed hydration bc that is what I was taught in school and then the HHOP.
H-Heat
H-hydration
O- O2
P-pain meds
According to kaplan qbank- the correct answer is pain med rt hypoxia caused by overcrowding of sickled celled RBC in sm blood vessels.
for d- the rational just say to address pain first???
Some of qbank questions and rationals are weird. The more i think i know, the more i get wrong.
hey all,so I've only been on allnurses for a couple weeks but it helped sooo much! Thank you for all the facts.
I just found out I passed NCLEX today. Took it on Tuesday. Did all 265 questions-major migraine afterwards-totally thought I failed-I think everyone does though. Had every topic-16 SATA, 4 med. Lots of questions similiar to Kaplan-if anyone is doing that I think you'll be pleased with their program-i found it helpful.
I'll be sticking around though-I know I'll have a lot of questions when I start working :)
Congratulations!!!:yeah:
Client with Hypothyroidism (myxedema)
Plan of Care:
Interventions are aimed at replacement of the hormones and providing measures to support the s/s r/t a decreased metabolism.
1. Instruct client about thyroid replacement therapy.
(Levothyroxine sodium, Synthroid)
2. Encourage client to consume fluids and high-fiber foods in the diet.
(Prevent constipation)
3. Encourage low-fat diet. (wt. reduction)
4. Instruct client to notify the MD if chest pain occurs.
(Maybe an indication of overreplacement of thyroid hormone.)
Hypothyroidism (cold intolerance)
Hyperthyroidism (heat intolerance)
sickle cellDehydration promotes crisis (Maintain hydration)
Pt. in crisis...provide analgesics (PCA with morphine sulfate)
so ur saying to prevent crisis, choose hydration, but if the question states "pt in crisis" choose pain meds??
in the 2nd edition of saunders the implentation:
1. administer 02
2. administer analgesics as prescribed but avoid Demerol dt risk of seizures
3. maintain hydration oral and IV
4. maintain comfortable position so the extremities extended to promote venous return and HOB no more then 30 degrees.
My powerpoint from school says HYdraton first, go figure
did anyone else use qbank ? There have been several questions like this?
what is a cerebral arteriogram?
injection of dye into the carotid arteries, via the femoral artery, to allow for visualization of the cerebral arteries and assess for brain lesions
what do you want to avoid prior to a electroencephalogram?
avoid caffiene 8 hours before the test, instruct them to wash their hair the night before and don't use any conditioners or spray hair products:nurse:
what do you want to check for prior to a myelogram?
check for allergies to shellfish or iodine, or contrast dyes
maintain NPO 4 hours before test
verify informed consent form had been signed
How should you position the client post myelogram?
keep them horizontal for 12-24 hours after test if oil based dye was used, raise HOB 15-30 degrees if water based dye was used
what should you monitor for post myelogram?
:eek:Fever, stiff neck, back pain
also encourage fluids:up: and monitor VS:up:, and their I&O:up:
