Anyone have any tips on studying for Organic and BioChem?

Published

I am taking Organic and BioChemistry in the Spring and was wondering if anyone knows of any good resources and/or any study tips for these types of Chemistry? I have heard that a reaction card file is a good thing to develop. Thanks in advance. :specs:

Definitely study your reactions...once you have those down you'll sleep better at night, guaranteed!

For my first exam, I mostly studied reactions, drawing and naming...and got an 82%. For my second exam I studied the properties, chemical reactivity, solubility, etc....along with the reactions, drawing and naming, and got a 98%. So....the moral of the story...study all of it!

Good luck...once you get the hang of drawing the molecules, it all comes pretty easily.

Do the questions in the book, do the review problems from the lectures and read the book. Many people in my class didn't do well because they were only studying the powerpoints.

Be prepared to spend a disproportionate amount of time on Orgo. I'm headed for an A, as long as I don't blow the final, but it will have been the hardest A I ever earned. :) I spend a minimum of 20 hours a week on Orgo outside the 6 hours of classroom time. I'm on to Orgo II next semester. After my final, I'll post some of my favorite online Orgo resources that have been a big help to me.

Good luck!
