Anyone in Tennessee???

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Just wondering if there were any nurses or nursing students here from Tennessee? Thanks, Sandy.

I too was beginning to wonder if there were any nurses from TN visiting here!! I worked in Knoxville for many years at Ft Sanders. I see that many of the mothers wanting to get in and get to work as a RN are asking about a fast track. I would like to say we had a great system in the hospital diploma programs and it was a Godsend for those of us anxious to get to work and not spend two years playing college. I hope someday, when the nursing shortage gets worse (that can't be much longer) the powers that be will see what a loss the diploma programs are!! I traveled all over the country and was always impressed with the great rep Ft Sanders had for super nurses and a wonderful program. I did continue my education and it is important, but under the circumstances, we NEED nurses!!!

Hi ya'll from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee!!;)

Nurse Dennie,

I emailed you in response to this the other night. I wanted to let you know also that I think your website is wonderful, it has so much information.

If you get a chance to read the email I sent you and reply, that'd be great!

Thanks,

Spec

Hi Spec!

Belmont is a lovely school. It's also very expensive.

When I was deciding where to go to school, I asked around to find out where the BEST nurses came from - the ones that the doctors wanted to hire, wanted the hospitals to hire. Well, back then, there wasn't a nursing shortage, so it made more of a difference back then.

I went to Aquinas, and I've never regretted it. It has the strongest clinical program of ANY nursing school I've seen or heard of. But having said that, Belmont also have a VERY good rep, and the BSN is quicker than at Aquinas (RN+2) so that might end up being less expensive in the long run.

I'm interested in what you perceived as being limited in resources. It's a very small school, but it seemed pretty complete.

Good luck!!

Love

Dennie

Maybe we should organize our very own allnurses get together for the state of Tennessee.

Now that's a GREAT idea! Anyone else interested?

It would probably have to wait until spring, though, due to our wonderful propensity for being in the "ice belt."

i am in northeast tn. also, close to knoxville. this is a beautiful part of tn. especially today, the sun is shining, and it's warm enough that you don't need a jacket!

So in the spring next year the Tennessee Allnurses are going to have a get together??? I'm interested.

WOW!! I am in TN too! I work at the VA in Nashville right by Vanderbilt. That is a fine VA hospital and I am proud to be a part of it. The VA system has some fantastic programs for people who want to get into nursing and especially RNs with a BSN.

I went to Cumberland University in Lebanon to get my BSN. I thought it was an excellent program and that school is growing by leaps and bounds!

I am so glad to know that there are other TN nurses here! I lived in Maryville for about a year and just adore east TN. If it wasn't for my folks needing me closer, I would live there.

Ok, then, spring it is. We'll pick a date a little later, I suppose.

The next question is, where do we want to do this? My first suggestion would be Nashville, as it is centrally located.

When I lived there, my favorite place to eat was The Spaghetti Factory on 2nd Ave. Unless things have changed drastically, it still has good food, despite being surrounded by tons of touristy things.

By the way, I rec'd my BSN from TSU & worked at . All of the nursing schools in the area produce good nurses...I just don't know which one was less of a pain to deal with...aren't they all pains in the rear?

Happy Thursday!

Hey jdomep...You will have to come to the speedway and look at the lights they have displayed. GORGEOUS!!!!!

I am shaking my head at the Christmas post. I am sure there are parts of the south that this applies to, but the southerners I know here are pretty refined, in public, at least.

Dear TheLionessRN,

I shake my head, too, when non-Southerners post anything about the South or Southerners.

We Southerners know that these folks exist. I've taken care of some of these folks and even shared the same neighborhood with a few of them. However, we don't invite them over for dinner...nor do/did we ever consider dating them.

Non-Southerners lump us all into one group. We know that there are distinct cultural differences between coastal vs. mountaineers, Tennesseans, Alabamians (sp?), Mississippians, Georgians, North & South Carolinians, Virginians, natives of Louisiana, & Texans. Even we Tennesseans know that there are distinct differences between folks from all 3 parts of the state!

My opinion of the Santa Clause thingy is this: :p

Have a great holiday!

I live in a VERY small town in East Tennessee about 70 miles northeast of Knoxville.

I graduate (HOPEFULLY ) from nursing school in 2004!
