I am signing up for this course which starts 10/26 - has anyone taken this class? I have read a lot of info about some of the instructors being excellent in terms of communication, etc. and some not so much, so I'd just like any opinions. PM me please :) Thanks in advance!
I would not recommend anyone take the online chemistry class. I went in for tutoring all through the second section and still flunked the final. I am grateful that I had a great instructor and I ended up with a B in the class. I got an A in lab, but it was a lot of work. The one thing I'm grateful for...is that it's over with:yeah:
BTW, most all of the answers to the essay and quiz questions can be found online simply by typing the questions (verbatim) into google. Most are found on Wiki answers or Yahoo answers. If you click around in the gradebook after you take each quiz, you can actually see the results (with the correct answers shown). Print those completed quizzes out (along with your essay questions) and you have a dandy study guide for the midterm and finals.
Downside to this strategy: The midterms and finals only seem to recycle the quiz questions about 25-30% of the time. The midterm and finals are literally stacked with the more challenging math and calculation-heavy questions. Don't go in thinking that you can survive on memorized vocabulary.
Again, avoid the two male RIO chem instructors with last names that end with vowels (rhymes with jablonico and hackamuso). They are both slow to respond to questions, and even when they do, their help is useless.
Take the course in-person.

That final was very difficult. The questions were stacked up with material from the final chapters. Almost as if were were a class filled with pre-chemical engineering students. The route to a superior academic reputation is not by flunking people en-masse, but rather in how you succeed in teaching them. Rio fails the test in my opinion. Don't do it people!
Since I already have to pay for it and already know there is no hope, with the midterm coming up I am just doing what I can and hoping for the best and resigned that this class will need to be repeated in person. If I even have to take it. I just can not figure out this math!
On the other hand I like the Microbiology and understand it alot more than the chemistry!
Google every quiz question and every essay question on your own to help study. Then make your own study guide (and study it hard). I also assumed I was screwed. But I stuck to my strategy and it saved me (barely). There is no reason why a resourceful person can't get 100's on each quiz and essay question. And going into the midterm and final with a study plan will help you get through it.
A tip: remember significant figure rules. You can often determine the correct answer simply by knowing how many significant figures MUST be in the correct answer (the presented data determines your sigfigs). A lot of the wrong answers will have incorrect sigfigs. This saved me on at least 5-10 questions.
Hi, I am gettting ready to enroll in CHM130 and am looking for a good instructor if anyone has any hints. I hate Chemistry, but by the time I finish my algebra class to take it, I would have to wait till spring to go through PC. Are there a lot of application essay questions in this class like in Bio156?

I am right there with you. I thought it was horrible. The instructor was AWFUL.
