  1. I am right there with you. I thought it was horrible. The instructor was AWFUL.
  2. The only advice I could probably give you is to be sure you don't take it from a particular teacher. I'll PM you his name...
  3. Hi dianabelanger, I got an 88 on the midterm and I think an 82 on the final. I ended the course with an 89 average! Grrrrr...so close to an A! The final was harder for me, but I also knew that I wasn't as on top of the 2nd half as I was in the beginning. It was exactly the same style, so I would say that as long as you keep on top of the content, it's about the same.
  4. Hi Everyone, I am finishing up CHM130 at RIO and will be starting BIO156 in the spring. Has anyone had a really good teacher that they can recommend. My chemistry teacher was AWFUL and I'm so worried that I will pick an instructor that will give me the same experience. I am registered for the accelerated course, but after reading a few posts, think I might change that! Anyway, if you had an instructor that you liked, would you mind PMing me the info? I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance!!!
  5. Hi McSweetiepie, I took the GRE last year and I had a really hard time finding any information on an "average" score and what that would mean to the college I applied to. Your best bet is to call the college's and speak with an academic counselor to find out what that particular school is looking for in terms of scores. Wish I could be more specific!
  6. Oh, one more thing, I only studied for about a month before taking the exam. My score got me accepted into ASU, so it worked out!
  7. Let me tell you the thing that absolutely helped me with the GRE. Go out and buy GRE for Dummies. I took a pre-test just to see how I would do, then took another one after studying with the the book, and it REALLY increased my scores. It was the best investment for that test...Seriously.
  8. Ok, I'm halfway through my chemistry class and am completely stressed out. I work full time and have three kids at home, a 14 year old and 4 year old twins. I am only taking one class at a time! I can't imagine what it would be like if I was doing more than that! I've read some of these posts and you guys are my hero's! I did just finish my chem mid-term and got my grade yesterday...so today is better!!!
  9. I am taking CHM130 at Rio right now and just finished my mid-term last week. I can honestly tell you that I've never spent so much time on a class, but I have an A average so it's paying off. I wouldn't recommend my instructor AT ALL, as I am completely self teaching here, and his feedback is minimal and slow coming. I don't have enough posts yet to PM you, so I'm not sure how to tell you which instructor it is...
  10. I used to be a financial aid advisor. It has been awhile, so I'll try to give you some general information. For undergraduate studies (when I was a counselor) a person was allowed a maximum of $46,500 in Title IV student loans. Depending on how much of that you used in your first degree program you may have plenty left. You can visit this website http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/ to find out how much you have borrowed and what you have available. You'll need your FAFSA pin to access your information. I'm pretty sure that once you have already received a bachelors degree, you are no longer eligible for federal Pell grants. Also, if you have maxed out on your federal student loans there are private student loans available as well. Ask your financial aid counselor at the college and they should be able to give you all of your options. If you do a little research before though you'll at least know where you stand financially before you get there. I already have a BA as well, but am thinking that I'll have to get the AA from the community college, because of the money. I just started my first of three pre-reqs I need before I can apply to nursing school. Good luck to you!!!
  11. I am just getting ready to start volunteering at my local hospital. I will be working in the pediatric unit and I am so excited! I just got my clearance from Employee Health yesterday, get my badge and uniform on Monday and one last orientation for the dept on Thursday, then I'm ready to go! I will basically get to play with the children for four hours a week to try to give them a sense of normalcy while they are in the hospital. I am in school right now working on my pre-reqs and thought volunteering would be a good way to get some exposure to what goes on during a shift. For me though, it's more to see if I can emotionally handle it. I'm not too concerned about the long hours and being on my feet (bartender and server for years...in my younger days...) but am I going to go home every night and cry myself to sleep? Thankfully, my hospital allows us to volunteer in that unit. It didn't occur to me that some hospitals wouldn't allow volunteers that kind of patient contact. And like RN Hopefull said, if nothing else you'll get a sense of fulfillment from doing something wonderful...
  12. I had actually considered becoming a psych nurse as my undergrad is in Behavioral Science. Good to know! :nuke:
  13. Thank you ear....that also makes me feel better. I have long thought about becoming a nurse but have immediately dismissed it because I assumed that I was much too squemish for it. Well, we'll see what happens after I volunteer at the hospital for awhile, if I can handle it then it's off to nursing school (after I take the pre-req's, and apply, then wait, then perhaps apply again...) :chuckle
  14. That is so funny that you say that! I didn't want to say it either, but man, it takes all I have not to add my contribution to the mess being cleaned up when they puke! Thank you so much for your reply. That does help me to feel ALOT better about it. Thanks again!
  15. Hi all, I am interested in becoming a nurse and have just started to process of volunteering at a local hospital to see if it's really for me. I was just wondering if any of the nurses out there started nursing with a weak stomach or were a little squemish. Was it something that you were able to overcome fairly quickly or what? My sister is a brand new nurse but has been a paramedic for many years and her husband is also a medic and they both say that it's something that I would get used to. I'm not sure if they are just telling me that, or if it's true, a person really can get over that part of it. Any input with be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
