Anyone take the Hesi at Gloucester County in NJ?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, I am taking the HESI at gloucester county college in 3 weeks and I wanted to know what kind of science is on the exam. The nursing packet says that you have to get a 70% on the chemistry and biology portion does that mean those are the only sciences on the exam? If anyone has taken it recently, can you please let me know if there is any A&P on the exam? Thank you so much!

Whats up fellow GCC student? Don't you love how half the buildings on our campus smell like pee?

Anyway... I have yet to take the HESI, but i asked the testing dpt a similar question. They told me to not study for te A&P and physics as they are not on the test. If you havnt already, stop by the student center (the place where you pay for classes and pick up a Nursing admission packet. But hey, i got one right here, so i'll post what is on the test, and the min passing grades.

Oh! Also grab the HESI review book from the bookstore, it is blue and yellow. it is published by the same sadists that wrote the HESI.

Chemistry 70% (real basic chem stuff. replacements, balancing reactions, periodic table fu, etc.. have not seen any advanced chemistry in the review book)

Bio 70%

Vocab&General knowledge: 80%

Reading Comprehension 80%

Meaning-word use 80%

Conclusions 80%

Implications 80%

Understanding 80%

Grammars 80%

Math 80%

(I have heard this is algerbra on the test. The prep/review book does not have any algerbra, but it does have dividing/subtracting etc with decimels. The other BIIIIGGGG part of the hesi (which, i think.. is stupid) is you have to memorize all standard to metric conversions as they will NOT provide you with a conversion card! (because nurses totally use standard measurements, and then convert them before providing care to a patient, yup! this is totally not an inacurate and error fraught idea! *grumbles*)

I take my test the 21'st. 19 days till d-day. Good luck!

You'll have to excuse the terrible formatting of my post.. i'm postin from work you see :shh:

KarenSing and daaz, how did you make out on the HESI? Have you applied to the program?

Ah, totally forgot to update you guys!

I got an 88.52 overall, which i'm very pleased with. The hesi was very over hyped... to those wondering how to study for it:

Buy the evolve book, (the skinny one) that will learn you most of the questions and how they are written, but also pick up a larger, more complicated prep book too.

The triage / critical thinking part of the test may be hard for anyone unfamiliar with the concept.

Pretty much... if they are bleeding, deal with them first. If they are vomiting, deal with them next, if they are sitting in waste.. they can wait a min, they literally are all ready. Oh, pt.s barricading themselves in the bathroom or whatever is either up there with loss of blood or right below it on the triage list.. unless i'm wrong.

I dropped off my application the day before deadline.

I'm applying with a B- (using my lower sciences c and a average..) and my hesi score. i got a c- in anatomy, so.. in all honesty it is going to be a damned miracle if i get in. (i'm also pessimistic and lack confidence in myself school wise ;o ) I'll know the first week of april, til then... i'm gonna not even think about it.

Does anyone know of any other ASRN programs in south jersey excluding GCC? (helene fuld closed)

Hi daaz,

Good to see you and I hope you get in! If you don't, or you want to be prepared, Cumberland County College has an ASRN program. Their handbook can be found here

http://www.cccnj.net/uploadedFiles/Departments/Nursing/Handbook__2010.11RN(1).pdf

Their admission requirements and scoring start on p 15. I think I read that the app deadline is April 28. They use a different admission test, but you may still have time! Burlington County College has a nursing program too that may be ASRN, but I didn't look.
