These comments are 2+ years old. I heard Pacific College is actually a very good school. Anyone have more recent experience with the schoool?

yes i have been a student of pacific college and all of the things being written about the school are true, unfortunatley.:o there are many more reasons i would not reccomend this school which i will not elaborate upon:icon_roll however i suggest that all current/ prospective students keep track of your answers on tests by counting how many answers you are unsure of before you end each test and demand a recheck if the numbers do not match up with the final results as their computer systems have been proven to error but don't ever tell that to the computer programmer. good luck if you ever get to recheck! ha!! instead of students being so catty and competitive with one another (taught by certain staff who use intimidation as a tool) try coming together as a group and standing up for your rights. many test questions are in error, poorly written, misspelled and even credit that is owed to you is rarely given, if at all which brings down your g.p. average. also, much is to be desired regarding the bedside manner of a certain clinical instructor (i won't mention the name) which younger students are not benefiting from to put it mildly. another suggestion, write down any of your tardies, or absent days and keep a log while staying currrent on your attendance status otherwise there will be discrepancies when you are suddenly "let go" due to the "policy change" you were not informed of despite an emergency room hospital note from a doctor and being within attendance limits. i want to thank ms. p and ms. g for encouragement. i also want to thank ms. m for being a good teacher despite it all. patty in admissions is a very caring woman and she deserves a raise. best of luck to everybody.:twocents:

pacific college is a shool for nurses.. not for people who wanna be a nurse but dont really know what it means. stop hating on pacific,if you cant pass a test go to stanbridge in irvine thats where all the kick outs of pacific go. i suggest work in a nursing home or any healthcare facility so you all haters can see and feel how it is to be a nurse..being a nurse is a callin.. its not because your friend or all your family are in nursing field..i recommend pacific college..its a hard school to go to but its a good one..go to pacific colleg just read your the chapters over and over and over..

:w00t::cheers:

If Pacific College is the best "shool" aka school (as you call it) haha! in Orange County, I would hate to see the worst! I believe the CORRECT saying is "you learn from your mistakes and you move on" minus the dude part.

However it appears some major mistakes are being made by the school thus causing significant consequences which are accentuating a negative experience overall. Everyone is mentioning the same things such as testing procedures, ever-changing school policies, unprofessional teachers, discord among peers, uncaring administration not addressing the needs of the students as well as disorganization to mention a few. This school clearly has a bad reputation among its current and prior students as noted by most of the posts on this site and others. If they keep it up, one day the school will be nothing but an abandoned building with empty classrooms and a dusty lobby.

FYI, ROP has the best nursing program in the county demonstrated by their continuious 100% pass rates on the Board of Vocational Nursing site which states factual information year by year. Stanbridge College which is a newer school seems to be a better choice and is an excellent nursing school with competent teachers who usually, if not always have a Bachelor's Degree in teaching and a seemingly intelligent, respectful caliber of students. They have a beautiful high tech campus with a very supportive enviornment and happy :) students (((that speaks volumes))). I'm sure many unhappy students who attended Pacific College would have chosen Stanbridge College first if they had known about it. Concorde's pass rates are higher than Pacific College which is why they get better training facilities for clinicals. I do not know much about the other vocational nursing schools in Orange County but I am sure they all have their faults. Lets just hope it is not at the expense of the students and their futures.

Stanbridge may be high tech but it does not have the pass history of some of the private schools in OC....sure its nice to wave a new computer around but the politics there is so bad the instructors would rather go somewhere else for much less pay than deal with the stuff.

I currently attend pacific college. I am in Term 3 with a class of 6 students. We started with 15 but due to intense requirement to pass each term, we lost 9 students. From term 1 the passing grade is 75%, then it goes up in term 2 to 76%, term 3 is 77% then term 4 is 78%. The passing grade ONLY makes you eligible to take a Comprehensive exam of 125 questions. IF YOU DO NOT PASS, YOU FAIL THE WHOLE TERM. Thus repeating the term, and paying $7,000 PER FAILED TERM (28,000 divided by 4 terms). Just a loan right? once your a nurse you can easily pay it off? What about the time wasted?

These are one of the few technical consequences of attending pacific college. Sure, you may say It's the same for other schools where you fail you repeat and pay... Let me finish..

The school is undergoing a recontruction right now. You can say... many of the late 2007 class is a guinea pig class. Experimented upon. New test are being given on the computer due to prior complaints of "cheating" on past test.

These test are defective, some have question repeats, others have questions with horrible answer banks, too many mispelled words that impact the question and questions that force you to remember every corner, every word on the book.

-These are opinions collected from multiple from 07-08 class and teachers whom reviewed the test.

Some councilor decided that since Pacific College is trying to transfer into an LVN/RN school, It is best to provide their current LVNS a book specifically made for LVN students that will become RNs in the near future. For some, this is great news, but for others who signed up to be LVNs, Its unecessary strain.

Call this whining, call it moaning...

I am tired of seeing good hardworking people, students, get dropped. Students with families to support and goals to achieve. These hardworking people getting shafted by a school that is underdeveloped. Losing money, wasting time.

Maybe in the future this school will get things together, and fix the problems, but until then...

This is the best warning I can provide.

I graduated almost a year ago....the stories about this school just keep getting worse and worse....I am now completing the prerequisites to get into GWC. I tell everyone NOT to do the LVN first, it isn't worth the cost nor the aggravation. Our class wanted to sue but fell apart after graduation, just happy to have gotten out of there alive. As for the different percentages, I know that Summit tried that and I believe they are no longer in business....perhaps this school will do the same....one can only pray and hope. Good luck Dr. Tan. With that high of a drop out rate the school will most definitely NOT get their RN program. That is one good thing that has come out of all of the misery that this place has put us all through.

How about this for a change. Read your books, show up on time, quit being lazy, ask questions, work hard, take your opportunity to heart. This is a good school, being maligned by malcontents. How many people who were successful students are posting negative comments. This is a good school, with a good and diverse staff. I liked some instructors more than others, all were competent to great. You knew how much the school cost before you enrolled. Be glad you have the opportunity to pursue such an honorable profession. Nursing school is hard work, you have to do the work to get results. Pacific College was good to me-I got my $$ worth. I am currently enrolled in an RN program and doing well in my career. It was a good foundation.:clown:

i carefully and methodically selected a college to work at in the orange county area. i have had years of experience in various capacities at medical colleges. i am very experienced and could virtually select any school to be associated with. i chose pacific college due to the hard cold facts about the success rates of their students, the quality of their instruction and the pass rates of their students. i drive a long distance in order to work in an environment that is positive and encouraging and offers wonderful careers to their students.

beware of some of these ridiculous posters on this website. some of their comments are just absolutely untrue. i ask that you use your own good judgment in selecting a school that has not only full accreditation but one that puts the student's education first. i am not saying this as an employee of pacific college but as someone that is shocked at the misrepresentations some of these posters have made. it is shocking that some unknown person could affect other people's career choices.

if you apply yourself, work hard, show up for classes and have the right attitude, you will succeed. if you spend most of your time complaining about things that do not affect your education, then i do feel sorry for you and perhaps you should select another facility because you will not last at pacific college. we flush our toilets!

the instructors all are with advanced degrees, many are doctors. classes are small by comparison and offer a fast track to your graduation in less than one year. compare!! we are not waving a lap top and a blackberry in your face as an incentive to enroll. it is our firm desire for you to become a contributing force in the medical fields, we are offering you quality education in a facility that has been in continuous operation since 1993 and is fully licensed and accredited.

we are offering you the chance to change your future in such an honorable profession, not spend your time complaining about nonsense and influencing others not to use their own good judgment and compare schools.

do not let some idiot with a lot of time on their hands that did not succeed to affect your success. remember, your past does not equal your future! i would proudly recommend pacific college to anyone interested in a quality education from a school that has an impeccable reputation. facts and figures don't lie but some of these posters surely have!

i Have Been Reading Much Of What Has Been Said About Pacific College And I Felt That I Had To Join This Site In Order To Provide My Input.

i Am A Graduate Of Pacific College And Currently In The Rn Program At Golden West. I Have To Say That I Loved My Teachers And Had A Great Experience At That College. I Have Referred Several Of My Friends There And They Have Had A Good Experience As Well. It Appears That Much Of What Has Been Written Here Is From People That Were Wanting Their Studies To Be "easy" And Education To Be Handed To Them On A Silver Platter. Life In The Rn Program Is Much More Difficult And I Felt Prepared....due To Going To A Great School That Provided The Education That I Needed. I totally Disagree With Much That Has Been Said Here.

i Question Whether Many Of These Comments Are From Legitimate People. I Also Believe That Many Of These Comments Come From People That Did Poorly In The Course Because They Didn't Study Or Attend School Most Of The Time. look At Pacific College's Pass-rate On The State Board Of Nursing's Website Before You Make A Decision On A School! They Certainly Are Doing Something Right To Prepare Hundreds Of Students Pass That Difficult Exam!!!!!

I am an LVN that is currently enrolled in a BSN program. I showed this post to my instructors who told me that ethical instructors would not be posting comments into a nursing student blog. In addition, my instructors told me that the so called "instructor" is more likely to be part of this sad college's administration. My instructor also said that you can NOT look at the LVN NCLEX pass rates posted by the Board of Nursing and take them as gospel for a number of reasons. A school could graduate "1" student, or as in the case of this poor school, a final class of "6". This student could take and pass the NCLEX and the pass rate will show 100% for 1 student. When looking at schools ask how many students graduated that term, ask how many students took the boards and how many passed. If as previous blogs show, extremely limited numbers take the boards, that is a real concern. The RN Boards list the school, the number taking the test (usually in hundreds) and the pass rate. The LVN Boards do not list the number of students taking the test. This poor program could graduate just 1 or 2 yet boast a pass rate of 100%. This is not a true reflection on the school. Choose schools carefully. You will be paying for a long long time.
