I am starting at Gurnick Acacademy Concord Campus for January 2011 and want to know who else is going there also. Any advice would greatly appreciated form grads or people in the program currently.

Roxxay,

I will be joining you in San Mateo starting the prereq. in April! :) I don't know about you, but I am beyond excited! I wish they would offer up a little more info before starting, but I have found those going to the other campuses that are step ahead give great info! ;)

Do you know anybody else going into the program with us, or are you going in blind (like me!)?

mrsgoodgame,

Talk to Kristy at the San Mateo campus. She is the LVN coordinator and if you call her she will let you know what you will be doing the first week of class so if you have your book now, you can begin to read. My campus (Concord) is the same way...they do not tell you anything before the first day of class...so, I did some investigating and call the San Mateo campus since they are the main campus. I told the receptionist what I was trying to find out and was transfered to Kristy.

I can tell you though that all my reading and studying ahead of time has paid off as I ended the prereq class with an 90%! Now that I am headed into Module 1, I again called Kristy and she told me what to read for the first week of class. She also said to me "I wish all the students were calling me to ask this...I love your persistance in wanting to prepare for the course..."

Thanks, Christine2009!! I appreciate all of the great advice and info on the program! I can't wait to start this monday! Good Luck with module 1!! You did so well on the prereq, i'm sure you'll do great! Thanks again!

Roxxay, have you had your financial aid meeting yet? I had mine last week. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll help with any general info I can. If you have turned in your FAFSA and haven't had your meeting yet, just email her. That's how I got mine! :)

I've met with her today! I have a balance of about 14k still and that would be covered if I applied for the parent plus loan. Are you in the am or pm meetings? I spoke to Tony today and switched to the pm. What's your e-mail, let's keep in touch! (:

I'm also in the PM group! Yay! At least we'll know each other! :) Let's definitely keep in touch! My email is [email protected] - needless to say, my name's Brittney! LOL. I ended up with about 8500$ left over - I got a Sallie Mae loan. See you on Monday!! :)

I just emailed you and left my number on there. Text me ASAP. Haha. The FAO didn't bring up SM yet coz she wanted me to do the parent plus loan first. K text me! :) see you!

Day Two of Module 1 and feeling quite overwhelmed with the HW and reading we have to do!:crying2: Next week we have a test on Monday in Nutrition over 3 Chapters, a test on Tuesday in Fundamentals over 5 Chapters and a test on Friday in A&P over 1 Chapter!!! So, I am going to be a busy beaver this weekend.

I love my instructors though, they are so nice and really want to help us do our best and pass the class. Anyone else feeling overwhelmed yet? Best of luck to those starting the prereq class, enjoy going to school two days a week because going everyday is killing me!!!

Christine2009, I'm proud of you. Good luck with everything! :) I know you got this. Keep us posted and study well!! xoxo

HorologyGirl,

How was Module 1? I start it on April 4th at the Concord Campus. I got my books and reading ahead of time because I know it is going to be a lot to juggle with working F/T and school 5 days a week. The San Mateo Campus LVN coordinator for all campuses told us to read Ch. 1-3 in Fundamentals and Nutrition, along with reading Ch. 1-2 in A&P. Is this what you all did when you started? I just want to get an idea.

Christine2009,

Module 1 was a combination. If you did well in prereq's, you will probably do well in A&P and Nutrition. Very similar classes, just a bit more indepth. Nursing Fundamentals, on the other hand, was quite difficult. It's a new way of thinking, and tons of information. I got through everything with A's :yeah:, but spent alot of time studying (as you can imagine). There really aren't any students working full-time (lots of part-timers), and I think you will have a big challenge with that. Really no need to read ahead, (unless you have nothing else to do in your life) ;). Good luck!

HorologyGirl,

I got a B+ in the prereq class and so I am not worried about the A&P in Module 1, so far everything seems pretty cut and dry. I have cut my hours at work to 30 hours a week and this allows me to get to school 1 1/2 hours early so I can read for what we have that night. Fundamentals really is not that hard, I work in the medical field and so I know all about the nursing process, care plans, pt care, assesments, etc. Nutrition is so far not that bad. I am just trying to find a balance in studying for all these tests we have next week and how to juggle studying for each one. Thank you for the encouraging words.:nurse:

hello all nurse or future nurse,

I really do want to join Gurnick but for 1600 for the Essential Medical Bioscience is really not to do able, so i was wondering if i can test out and how could i do that, what subjects they cover,What books to buy, and what chapters to study, i want this really bad!

CarlaC.,

In the challenge exam for the prereq class it is over Anatomy & Physiology. The campus you are inquiring with should provide you with a study guide of what to concentrate on. Basically, it is the whole book Memmler's Human Body in Health and Disease 11th Ed by Barbara Janson Cohen.

I strongly encourage the class because they cover more than A&P but Drug Dose Calculations and Medical Terminology. It really helps you prepare for Module 1 and beyond.

Whether you can test out is up to your admissions rep. I attend the Concord Campus and was able to test out of the class because I had taken A&P at a jc. I ended up just sitting in the class so that I could refresh my A&P and learn the Drug Dose Calculations. Now, that I am in Module 1, I am so thankful that I did that as I would be so completely lost without having had taken the class.

Hope that answers your question.
