I'm enrolling in the Modesto Gurnick next month. Can u tell me the process re: financial aid? Do the have payment plans? Anything that u can tell me about what you did regarding that would be helpful. I already submitted the FAFSA to Gurnick.
I haven't heard too much about Gurnick, but some has been positive. The programs are somewhat new, so there aren't tons of grads yet to get opinions from. My feeling is this... If you can get through the program and get licensed as a LVN, then great. I plan on then finding a LVN-RN bridge w/in a few yrs. and get that done too.
Once you submit your FASFA, the school is sent your information regarding what you qualify for...Pell, Student Loans, ect. Any balance left over is then converted into 12 monthly payments or you can apply for a Sallie Mae Loan.As an undergrad, the total amount of money that can be taken out is $57,000 so if you have not reached this amount in previous student loans, you are okay. The Sallie Mae loan goes off your credit report and to qualify you need a credit score of 700 or higher or you can also apply with a co-signer who has good credit.HTH!
Ok, so Sallie Mae is out... LOL. There's no way that I'm even close to get near 57K, so I'll figure that fin aid will cover it.
Thx for the info!
Not to worry, Sallie Mae was also not an option for me either!!! LOL Good luck to you and will see around on the boards

I thought fin aid would work out for me too... but I just found out that they want $1600 for the ONE pre-req class. No way, not going to happen. I wrote all about it on another post: https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/updated-my-personal-508926.html
Good luck.
WOW 1600??? what class was that for?
It is a pre-req class that everyone has to take. Essential Medical Bioscience
My heart almost stopped when she told me the price, like $800 over the next 2 month is do-able. Ya, right. That's why I'm trying to get IN to school... to make money. Right now, I'm a starving student!!! Geez.
Dumb for-profit schools.

Collegegirl,
Just because you had a bad experience with the Modesto campus, does not give you to the right to bash the whole Gurnick system! I had a wonderful experience with the Concord campus and think that it is not fair that you are spreading all this negativity to those who are considering on going to the school.
Ok, since you are a Gurnick student I can see how this would rub you wrong, and I apologize. I will make this clear again....
I AM ONLY TALKING ABOUT THE MODESTO CAMPUS!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope that was clear enough now. I'm sure your location's Gurnick is fabulous, but I DO want to warn people about the Modesto Gurnick. Enough said? - Peace out.
This may sound a bit "new-age", but I am teading The Power and it is about the law of attraction. If you know about the book, this will make more sense. It got me thinking about they the comments that I've posted about Gurnick (MODESTO!) and I'd like to say the following:
When I posted the comments, it was just after I realized that their pre-req class was $1600 and I would never be able to afford it. I was kinda lashing-out and shouldn't have shed such a negative light on the school. I've read some positve things about some students' experiences at Gurnick, which is completely valid and should be considered when looking at this school as an option.
Truth be told, if I was able to afford the pre-req class, I wouldn't have said anything negative. Sorry about that. I'm working on my behavior. If I was able to delete the comments, I would... but I don't see how to do it.
Anyway, good luck and cross your fingers that I make it thru all the pre-req classes that I need to take now.
