Anyone starting classes in FL in the fall ?

Hey,

I am on the alternate list at the hillsborough community college. I am begging them to take me because I want to work as soon as possible. They are looking into my situation and there is a good chance that i will be accepted for the fall. I would be very happy because I am very anxious to start the clinicals. I have all my prequisites for the BSN program but was not accepted at USF. Now I am happy to have an ooportunity to do the ADN program.

I am starting the nursing program at Florida State University this fall. I'll be taking Nursing Compentencies for Professional Practice, Pharmacology and a few other classes that I can't seem to remember at the moment.

For those of you looking at PBCC: I have only heard wonderful things about that program. I grew up in South Florida and I seem to remember lots of people saying that they had a great nursing program at PBCC. I believe they have a really high pass rate on the NCLEX as well.

I'm curious if any of you know how many applicants your perspective school had for the fall. I heard that FSU had close to 300 applicants for around 70 spots. They usually only get around 200 for fall admission. Wondering if schools all over the state are seeing this sort of situation.

Hi! I'm finishing up the last of my prereqs at Florida Community College at Jacksonville; I applied for the Summer program that started in May, but wasn't accepted, so now that I've finished Micro and Sociology, I've applied again for the Fall program...I'll find out if I'm accepted in early August. They only took 60 students for the summer, and I heard there were about 300 applicants. I also hear they take about 120 students for the Fall semester, so that should help me get in too. I'm doing the ADN route because I'm a "non-traditional" student (I'm 47) making a major career change, and wanted to get back in the work force as soon as possible (I'm still working full time while taking my prereqs in the the evenings/weekends). If I start this September, I'll graduate in December 2004. I do plan on going back for my BSN as soon as I can get my employer to help pay for it! I've heard some negative things about FCCJ's program, but since it is the most convenient for me, I'll keep trying to get in, although I plan on applying to St Johns River Community College's (in St. Augustine) program in January if I'm not accepted @ FCCJ for the fall. Like I said, my primary concern is getting back into the work force as soon as I can.

I grew up in Pompano Beach, and my mom and oldest sister both just moved to Delray Beach from Boca Raton. I spent Memorial Day down there and was very glad to be back in North Florida...too many crazy "yankee" transplants down there (and I'm from Chicago originally, but guess after 30 some years in Florida, I'm considered a Southerner!).

Wow - does anyone have waiting list info on FAU, PBCC, and Barry? This is depressing.....

Well I finally got through my year of pre-req's at Barry... Not so bad! I'm starting my nursing classes in the fall. Originallky Barry did not have a waiting list... But through the grapevine I heard they have one now. I'm not too sure about it. I will call them up and ask them tomorrow if you really really ned it. Barry is the #1 for nclex passing rates in South Fl. I don't know about PBCC but last time I checked (which was a year ago) FAU had a one year waiting list. BCC has a 2 year waiting list (my friend wanted to apply but got discouraged when she heard how long the wait was). MDCC does not have a waiting list but I would call and ask them.

I like Barry a lot - I was even offered the Allied Health Admissions Officer position 5 years ago! However, it is quite a hike for me and I'm not wild about the school location.

I am in my 4th week of the Summer ADN program at FCCJ (Jacksonville)! Already tired, but loving it!

PBCC does not have a waiting list. They choose the students by a point system. If you have enough points your in, if not you reapply the following semester. You receive points for completeing co-reqs (AP2, micro, nutrition and a humanity), your GPA, NLN test score (worth 1/3 of the possible points), residency and prior health care experience. Hi, I also attend PBCC, I noticed by the date of your post that by now you are through with clinicals? I am taking the NLN next week, hopefully to get in by January. I am taking MicroLab-I have Pr. Strong and the lecture with Dr. Konopacki. Any advice on the NLN???

I just finished taking my prereqs at Barry. It was great. I can tell you all the best teachers to take. I will be starting my nursing classes in the fall, however Barry is a really good school for nursing!!

I went to FSU and graduated in May 2004. I just passed NCLEX!! whoo hoo! If you need any help/advice with teachers and courses let me know.

I'm starting the ADN program this fall. I was on a waiting list for a year already and wasn't supposed to start until January 2005. On a whim, I emailed the Director of Nursing and let her know that all my pre-reqs and co-reqs were completed and that I would love to be considered if any spots opened up this semester. A week or so later, I got a letter in the mail saying they had a spot open up! Coincidence, fate? Not sure, but I can't wait! Anyone else starting this fall in FL? :)
