This thread is for anyone who is trying to get into, currently at, or graduated from Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh!
Hi! Im new to this.. i'm a prospective student of shadyside and im awaiting my exam scores! I admit I'm a little nervous, I think I did well on everything except for natural science:uhoh3: it's been a few years since I've taken any science.. I used to be a Marketing major lol. BIG switch! I realized nursing was a better choice for me when I started working with those who have developmental disabilities and I LOVE my job.. I think Mental Health nursing might be the path for me.. but who knows i'll probably do a little bit of everything.. plus I still have to get in!! Anyone else going for Spring 2008?? Besides Chatham college & MSG, where else do they hold classes/clinicals?
Thanks everyone!
~Rachel
Hi Rachel,
I'm in my second year of the daytime program at Shadyside.
In the daytime program all the classes are at Motor Square Garden except for Anatomy and Microbiology and their labs.
Clinicals are all over the place: Shadyside of course, Montefiore Hospital, Braddock, McKeesport, Magee, Southside, Presby for Critical Care, Passavant, Western Psych, and I think maybe a nursing home for Nursing 102, but I might be wrong. It's funny but after 5 clinical rotations, I've yet to be assigned to Shadyside. The daytime classes are large so they get split up among a lot of different sites. The downside in the program is that the students have absolutely no say in what their clinical assignment is and don't usually find out what it is until a few days or maybe a week before it starts. So you can get somebody from the North Hills assigned to McKeesport or a city dweller who doesn't own a car assigned to Passavant.
I like the program and am having a good time. It is a bit crowded since we have the large classes, but that and having no say in clinical assignments are my only complaints.
Good luck to you.
Dan
My essay two years ago was only about 1/2 of a page typed (three paragraphs - 274 words). I got in. I had very good test scores. Don't know about the letters of recommendation of course, but I wouldn't have asked for letters from people unless I thought they'd be good.
Now you've got me wondering what the normal length of essay is. I know there are a lot of other Shadyside students on this thread. It would be interesting to see how much they wrote.
Hi everyone! I am hoping to get accepted for the Spring 2008 semester. I just got my test scores today and I am soo excited. I was worried when I took the test but I got the 99th percentile in vocab, math, and reading and the 98th percentile in science!!! I will def be celebrating to day and can't wait to find out if I am accepted. Does anyone know when that will be?

Hi Jen! I just got my letter yesterday and I will be Spring 08 too! I can't wait to meet our class. It feels like Feb. is so far away, but it will go fast. I'm looking forward to it. Take care, Sharla
