Anyone Starting At UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

This thread is for anyone who is trying to get into, currently at, or graduated from Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh!

Yeah, that is what I think, too. My kids are pretty excited about me going back to school. I know that it will be alot of work, but I'm up for it. I am doing the Evening/Weekend program so that I can still be there for my kids, but do this for me, also. I have 3 boys, too.... and 2 girls. The boys are SO much easier:rolleyes:

does anyone know if the deadline for applying has been extended untill June 18 for the Fall 2007 full time class? I thought I had read this somewhere, and have trying to get in contact with someone at UPMC Shadyside, but no luck :-( I'd REALLY like to get into their program! Thanks a bunch!

I thought it was June 8, but you would have to call to find out. They are pretty good about returning calls if you leave a message. The thing is, you have to take the pre-entrance exam before you can send in any application materials. I'd call and talk to them....

I believe the deadline for receipt of applications was June 1, 2007. They announced this date when I was testing on May 12, 2007. Did you already take the PSB exam? If not they are not giving it again until August. I will be retaking the Science part.

no, i didn't take the PSB test yet, but i thought that if the application deadline was extended maybe they would offer more? so i guess it looks like ill be taking the test in august, and praying to get into the spring 08 full time class! im taking pre-nursing classes at ccac right now and i need out of that place and want a more clinical-based program, hands-on practice seems like such a better choice! thank you all!

What is the evening/weekend program like? I have a 6 month old and am starting in the fall. Just wondering if this is going to work!

I'm also starting the evening/weekend program in the fall.......I have 5 children--the youngest is 22 months...I think that it should be ok since it is part time. I'm glad to know I won't be the only mom in the program.

Shadyside, thank goodness, offered one last PSB exam last saturday on the 16th and I took it and am now waiting to hear back about the results. The reading and math were very easy for me, but i'd say the science was the tougest of them all. Can't wait to hear back!! Also, all the posts about the tests and what to expect and what books helped the most were SOO helpful to me, so thank you all! :)

I think this link will get you to the outline of the curriculum. It's a 4 year program. Post #76 above from JennHeidKamp says a little more about what the hours are. As you can see from this thread there are a lot of parents doing or about to do the Evening/Weekend program.

Wow, I hope you do well! I thought the science was really hard, and ended up with a 94 on it. Good luck!!!!

Hi all, I'm a 2nd semester full-time day student. I have 4 teenagers and work double shifts on the weekend as a CNA in an LTC facility. I love Shadyside NS! The instructors will really do what they can to help you. Our class started out with 96 students broken down into about 3 different groups. I had to take Micro, Nursing 100 and 101 all at the same time while working. Just study a little every night and you will excel and have a good time. To help remember so of the different nursing laws and concepts we played Jeopardy which was so much fun. So whether you start in the fall or in the spring, in the day or evening, I think that you will enjoy your experience at Shadyside.

Most importantly stay connected to this website there is so much info out here!

Good Luck to all!
