Anyone a Respiratory Therapist taking the Excelsior RN program? Just curious what your thoughts are about the program and how RT school prepared you for this program. Thanks!
i am not a rt ,but want to go to rt school after i become a rn. do they have programs that offer bachelors degrees for rt's?
yes, i am currently a senior in a bsrc program.
i believe there are around 50 bs programs for respiratory therapy/respiratory care/cardiopulmonary science...
so why would you want to go to rt after rn school? it seems everyone else does the opposite.
one good thing about rt school, at least in my program and others that ive taken a look at, is that we are acls, pals, and nrp certified before we graduate.
i guess you could say i am a professional student. some people garden , some people knit ,but i attend college for a hobby. i dropped out of high school in 1993 got a ged and been in college since 1994. my dad told me that when i dropped out i would never be anything. so i chose to prove him wrong and obtain degrees in everything i am interested in. so that is what i have been doing collecting degrees and having my father eat his words. respiratory therapy seems like a very respectable and knowledgeable field . you can never know to much and this would really let me help all my little residents that suffer so bad from respiratory issues. i could really help them ( or at least i think i could)... anyway as with anything i start at the bottom so i will seek a associates degree first then move to the bachelors. one day i will also be a paramedic but thats several degrees down the road...

I am also an RRT with 12 years experience currently enrolled in EC. I have some pre req's to do but not many. I am encouraged by posts that say they have completed this in such little time. I would like to finish ASAP, as I am sure everyone does. I am wondering if anyone has taken ethics? I am struggling with this one I feel like they are talking in circles. I like the support offered here, it really motivates me.

I believe you have to find a hospital and a RRT that is willing to be your clinical instructor. You have to have around 1000 hours of clinical time. You can do it on weekends or whatever works for you. Now dont quote me on this, as I am not exactly sure this is how it works. Call California College and I am sure they can explain it to you better. Good luck!
