I currently live in California and I'm working on paperwork for licensure by endorsement to Illinois. Can anyone tell me how long the process was for them. I mailed my verification of license form to my BON on July 13th and I still have not received it back. I just saw on the website that it takes about 6 weeks to verify. I had planned on moving at the beginning of October and now I'm wondering if I will have all the paperwork processed. I have also put my apartment hunt on hold because I don't want to end up having an apartment in Chicago and being unable to work there because I don't have a license. Can anyone tell me about how long it took once they sent their paperwork to the Illinois BON? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance!

Not sure about Americans, but I have a friend, foreign-trained, that has been in the process since the beginning of May, and they are still waiting.
That is when they had all of the documents and this is now mid-August. And no word.

When I moved from IN to IL in 1996, it took about 12 weeks for the entire process. I had been licensed in NV also and they must coordinate any and all other states of licenses. Good luck.

IL is notoriously SLOW in processing endorsements (and other licensing issues as well.) I have heard of people waiting as long as 6 months to get an IL license. Of course the length of the process is partially determined by how quickly your original state processes your paperwork.
This sounds like a dumb question coming from an IL licensed RN, but IL is my state of original licensure, so I've never endorsed there: Does IL offer temporary permits? If so, then you would at least be able to work pending your license.
Good luck!

Here is the link to the IL. State Prof. Reg. Site: http://www.idfpr.com/dpr/WHO/nurs.asp . I *think* you can get a Temp. Permit.....call and ask?

You are so right when you say the length of the process depends on how quickly your original state processes your paperwork. On July 13th, I mailed off my verification of licensure form to my BON and I still have not received it back so I can send it to Illinois. I just don't understand why it takes so long for them to verify my license when they were the ones who originally gave it to me.

Yes, you can apply for a temporary permit in Illinois. Originally, I wasn't going to apply for it but now I am thinking I will because I'm putting my move to Chicago on hold waiting for this license. I don't want to be stuck there without a job.
Are you sure that CA will return the verification to you? I think they will send it directly to IL, so there is no chance that you can tamper with it.
If you are waiting to receive this before you continue with the endorsement process, that may be part of the problem. Can you contact CA and find out if they've sent it directly to IL, or contact IL to see if they have received it?
I've worked in 5 different states (endorsed my license 4 times), and have NEVER mailed the license verification myself. It always was sent directly from IL (my state of original licensure) to the new state. In the meantime, I submitted all the paperwork required of me, paid the fee, and requested a permit (if allowed). I was fortunate to have the process go fairly quickly and smoothly, with one exception. That involved PA, and my new employer made an error on my permit request, which was the reason for the delay.
Also make sure that the permit and/or license is mailed to your CURRENT address, wherever that may be. The postal service will not forward licenses or permits. They will return them to IDPR, and you will have to "claim" them.

On the verification of license form, it says "return to applicant". It also says that on the verification of education form and I have already received that back from my school. I found it odd that they wouldn't want the forms sent directly to them so you can't tamper with the form after it has been filled out. I'm now wondering if my BON sent it directly to Ilinois. I'm going to call them to find out. Thanks for the info. Now you've got me thinking.

hi,
i'm going through the same process as you are right now. i was told by the IL BON that once you submit all the paperwork to IL BON, you can get a temporary license. this takes about 2 weeks from the time you submit the forms. you can work with this temp permit. as for the CA BON verification, there's really no way to speed it up. and i can't believe they charge $60 to do this!!! what a ripoff. and they do return it directly to you in about 6 weeks.
good luck!!
Jolie, you were absolutely CORRECT..........
I waited like a good little girl until 6 weeks and 1 day after I mailed the form to my BON. I waited because I understand they are very busy. I called on August 25th and the lady told me "Oh, we mailed that out to Illinois on August 2nd". I was happy and pissed off at the same time. I was happy because the paperwork was already there but then pissed off because I waited/wasted 3 weeks. I then paid the extra money to have my application delivered the next day on August 28th. Today I checked online and it says I have an ACTIVE Illinois license. I'm totally shocked the process went so quickly. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive in the mail. Praise the LORD! Had I not wasted the 3 weeks, the process probably would have only taken 3-4 weeks. I think it went alot faster because I did the Livescan instead of fingerprint cards. I'm moving at the end of October!!!!
