HI!

My husband and I just found out that I am pregnant :balloons: :p . I'm super excited :rotfl: , but now I worry about being able to continue straight through school :uhoh21: . I sure don't want to loose anytime. I'm imagining I'll be due around May of 2006. Then, I'll have the whole summer to be a new mommy....and, then I'd like to somehow just get right back into the swing of things the following Fall semester.......Is this being realistic? This will be our first child, so I really don't know what to expect in regards to going to school while "being with child." I want to be a great new mommy, so obviously our baby will come first, but if possible I'd like to still graduate on time (BSN program).

If anyone has some wisdom for me, please share.

Thanks!!!

When I was in nursing school...there was a woman that was in class with me...she's been my idol ever since...She found out she was pregnant with her 5th child while in school...She went through most of the year being pregnant...never missed a class...She delivered her precious little package on a Thursday...and was back in class on Monday with child...The baby slept the whole class and if necessary, she would breast feed during class...it was amazing...She's been my role model ever since, and I've never seen here again since we graduated...

Oh wow-that is very encouraging!-Thank you so much!!

First of all, congratulations!!! This isn't exactly the same thing, but... I had a baby at the end of April, and I decided to become a nurse about a week into my maternity leave. This is my second degree, so I only need 3 classes to get into an accelerated BSN program. I started pre-requisites when my daughter was only 5 weeks old, and made it through A&P I and II this summer. (It was only ten weeks, and I made A's in both!) My daughter is 16 weeks old now, and I'll be finishing up my pre-reqs and taking two upper-level nursing courses in the fall. (I'll officially start the BSN program in the spring.) So far, it hasn't been bad at all. We fell into a routine after about three weeks, and we've been sailing along since then. I've learned to study while she's sleeping, but I've had to learn to study while she's wiggling in my lap too! My husband has been very helpful since I decided to go back to school, so that has made it much easier. So, I don't think you'll have any trouble going back in the fall. It might be a little tough at times, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck! :)

Thank you sleepyprincess! I'm so happy to hear it can be done.

Congratulations!

I was pregnant going into nursing school and I had my son about a month in. He was born on a monday and I was at our clinical orientation the following friday. I missed the first week of clinicals because of restrictions on lifting, but it was easy enough to make it up. I had a lot of help from my family so I would have time to study, but if you have a lot of support and the summer off to be a mommy I'm sure you'll do fine. There were four girls in addition to me who were pregnant during school, two of them had their babies before graduating and all four of them passed.

Good luck!

I posted a similar topic a month or two ago because my husband and I are planning to try to have a baby while I'm in school. I agonized over this decision, but with age, medical issues, etc. I can't wait until I graduate.

I talked to alot of people and everyone said---go for it! The schools seem to be helpful, the other students will help, and alot of people told me they thought they schedule is actually slightly easier in school than it is when you first graduate and are struggling to learn your specialty.

I finally decided, worst case scenario I take one semester off--in the long run, it will be worth it even if it makes finances tight.

So don't worry, you can do it!

I'm set to start a part time LPN program in January. I'm also currently 6 weeks pregnant, so I'll be delivering my "newbie" in the spring also. This will be our fourth child, so I know what to expect.

But like you, I'm hesitating about starting the program while pregnant. However, I have talked to the school and they seem real helpul. Since the program I am entering is two years in length (2-3 days a week), they said many of the women either come into the program pregnant, get pregnant and deliver during the program, or leave the program pregnant. My program seems very supportive with my pregnancy. I would suggest that you talk to your program and see what type of support you could receive during pregnancy and as a new mom. You might be surprised. Good luck and congratulations to you also!

To the OP: Find out thru your school what their clinical makeup situation is like. The nursing school I went to would not allow you miss even one clinical or you would be booted from the program. This policy was put in place thanks to the class before us who abused the clinical makeup system that was previously in place. Definitely find that information out.

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant also, hoping that I'll get pregnant in a few weeks and deliver mid-May. That way I'll have the summer with the baby. I talked with my school and they said that there are several women who are pregnant and deliver during and after school. I think if there's a will - there's a way!!!!! :p

First of all, congrats!!!! May your pregnancy be filled with wonder and joy!

I got pregnant with my first right after I started nursing school (oopsie!). She was born in June after my first year of nursing school. So, like you, I had the whole summer with her before starting back with school. I was lucky in the sense that I didn't have to work while I was going to school, and I was blessed that she was a easy and happy baby. (Now, of course, it's a different story....but she's 11 now..... :uhoh21: ) I graduated on time with honor's on the Dean's list. So, yes it is possible, and you will do just fine with your school work and clinicals as long as youre committed and have a good support system.

Good luck with your pregnancy and school, you are in for a wonderful time!

PM me with any questions or if you EVER need encouragement....I've been there!
