Anyone a new grad working at FLorida Hospital or Orlando Health?

Published

If so, what department, what was your starting pay, how was/is the orientation period, and how do you like the job in itself? Thanks! I look foward to working there when I graduate in 2010:)

I have been applying to jobs at Florida Hospital website but i havent heard from anyone but i did get a rejection letter for a NICU position for the GN. Could anyone answer this question? Do you apply just to GN positions or just RN position.

If you are a new grad you would have to apply as GN. Any RN position will probably say min 2 years experience or something like that.

But I would apply for any position you see available if it doesn't have a minimum requirement whether GN or RN.

I know my floor wanted minimum 2 year PCU experience for the openings. When they didn't get enough qualified applicants they went for GNs.

MAL,RN-

Did you get called for an interview for the OR internship?

How long did it take?

Anyone have any info about work conditions at FL Hospital Heartland in Sebring and Lake Placid? I get mixed reviews but would like to her from anyone that has or currently works there. Thanks.
I work ER in LP and also have experience in the med/surg and ICU, management on all 3 units is excellent and very supportive, I did my practicum in Heartland's ICU and had I not already accepted the med/surg position as a new grad I most likely would have worked there, I have friends in all units at Heartland and we've all started as new grads and nobody has left yet, altho our only other hospital option is NOT a place we want to work unless it's as agency for the $$

I have 2 years of experience in Europe, I am a Licensed RN overseas, unfortunately I do not have a FL RN license yet, but I am in process of getting it. Should I even bother to apply for jobs as an RN? Do my 2 years of experience count if I got them overseas? I am very very sad...they say there's a nurses shortage, yet it is so hard to get a job.

Of course you should try to apply! No harm in trying.

There's more of a patient demand than there are nurses employed to meet the demand... but there are a number of reasons why more nurses cannot/are not being hired.

Hi,

I will be starting as a GN at Florida Hospital in April! I'm super excited and grateful for the opportunity. I am trying to figure out our financials and would like to know how much differentials are. I found some posts discussing this topic but they are a few years old.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Also, for those GNs still looking for work, keep at it. I must have submitted about 70 applications before landing this position!

Lilarn2,

Maybe you can help me out. I got called today for prescreening for April, but since my baby is due the end of March, and I'd be moving from AZ to FL, the recruiter agreed that the June program would be better. Did they tell you what the starting pay is? When it would start in April? What area/speciality/floor you'd be on? Do you have a BSN or ADN? I've got my ADN but will be finishing my BSN end of May. The recruiter said they are reaching for Magnet, so BSN's are preferred but ADN's will be looked at if they didn't hire enough BSN's. Thanks for sharing your input.

MassagetoRN,

Congrats on the baby and getting the pre-screening call! I have an ADN and the ADN pay rate is $21.44/hr. Those with BSNs get a little more. The benefits are awesome and they do have a daycare which might come in handy for you eventually. FH seems like a great place to work. Everyone at the hospital seemed very warm and caring.

The start date/orientation is April 11. My paperwork states that the next cohort start date is July 5th.

I think that waiting until the summer to start might be a good idea since you are expecting in March. I don't know if this is your first child but the first couple months with a newborn are very hard (but absolutely wonderful) and I can't imagine starting a new job and moving during that time. However, if you have a great support system it might be doable.

If you decide to wait, I would write down the recruiter's name and number and call when you are ready to apply again. Good luck in whatever you decide to do! Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions I might be able to help you with.

lilarn2, congrats on the job!! I am graduating this April, and have been searching and searching for GN positions since December and finally found one yesterday and applied. So nervous! You are so lucky to have found one and already get hired! How long did you wait between the time you applied and when they called you? Also, I'm debating actually going to the floors I applied to to introduce myself...just desperate for a job of course! Any advice? THanks :)

lilarn2:

Congrats on the job!

Are there different cohorts for the different specialty areas or are you all combined? Do you know where you're going to be placed?

Do you know how much more per hour they pay BSN's?

Thanks!

Hello!

I got a call back from Florida Hospital for their GN program, and I have an interview this Wednesday and I'm sooooo nervous!!! Actually, I have 2 interviews with Florida hospital! One for Surgical PCU and the other interview with Fractures Department. I do not know what to expect! I really want this so bad, I have been looking for jobs here in Miami (my hometown) but everywhere I apply, they want at least one year experience. I have my RN license since the end of 2009, got pregnant so I decided not to look for a job meanwhile, the employment market was horrible anyways, but when my baby turned 4 months, I decided to apply once again. It's been three months of applying every day here in Miami, and no luck. I am so grateful that Orlando is giving me 2 interviews! I hope I don't blow it! Can anyone help me out in what to expect in my interviews??? AHHH hehehe, I would really appreciate it! :lol2:

Thanks for the information Daisymei :yeah: I am new to allnurses.com, I wanted to thank you in a private message but I read that I have to have a certain amount of posts in order to private message. I'm going to practice for my interview, thank you SO much again =)
