Hi, I am new to this forum and I am wondering if anyone has graduated from mcc in lowell the 2 year rn program. Also if anyone is in the middle of the program or applying for it. I am applying for 2010 evening program. I completed my prereqs already. Didn't know if anyone had any thoughts bout it. Also what is a good bsn program to follow through with. Please reply with any thoughts or comments. Thanks. Erin
Kris-
when you say you spend the rest of the day reading/ practicing, is that practice in the open lab? How much time do really spend in there vs. how much they tell you in orientation? Do you have to go every day or a certain amount hours per weel? Sorry for so many questions... I have orientation on May 6th.
Thanks
Lyn
Practice in open lab/practice at home. We dont "have" to go to open lab. But if you want to learn the skill, and master it...you want to go as often as possible. Some people don't go at all and they fail every cert. They retake it and pass, but then their essential skills such as taking blood pressure, lung sounds, wound care are poor. Would you rather have a nurse that has mastered it..or half a**es it? I mean if you are a pro at it you don't have to go as often as others...but that's not usually the case. Plus, professors are there to help you, while at your house you're on your own. Hard to tell if you got the pulse right if no one knows what they are doing!
oh i see... thats good. I have been a CNA in a hospital for 15 years and I do tons of vital signs per shift, so I hope I could get the BP and pulse right!
What I need to pay attention to is how they want me to do things, that's important. Time to get rid of bad habits. At least I hope I won't need as much practice on that as someone who may be new to the task. Congrats for getting through (almost) the first semster, and thanks for answering my questions. Talk to you later.
guess what.....I JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO THE FALL 2011 NURSING PROGRAM!!!!!!!
Camille just called me to see if i wanted to accept an open seat. Im soooo relieved and excited. i dreamed of her calling me and saying this. i just wanted to share my news with you guys. so i guess i will see you all at orientation next friday. yipppeeee
Erindel - I was wondering if you would still be posting on here, haha! I signed up for Bedford as well; not sure on the group category though. I presume since we were some of the first we would be in the same group, but then again maybe not? I was wondering if we would be able to purchase some sort of MCC Nursing apparel; a little motivation! How did you hear about it/where do we go? P.S. - if you are on facebook let me know.
Hi patno, hopefully we are in the same group then, thatll b cool...
The woman at the bookstore told me about the sweatshirts, said to contact someone from student nurse club. I would guess ***** the secretary would know more about it. I also enrolled for AP2 in the Fall, how busy will I be!!! Its on a tues/thurs day class.
I wish our booklist would just arrive along with some sort of reading list to get started. Im getting bored over here not having anything to read or study. I actually do not have a facebook account, never really got into that stuff....
Well keep in touch over the summer if u want, I send my congrats to you and your future wife on your big day next month!
Enjoy your honeymoon and the summer... Itll fly by then time to hit the books again.
Erin
Aww thanks Erindel! I don't want to hassle ***** if you were already planning to call her, but if not then I certainly will! You are definitely crazy for taking on that extra work load in the Fall, but I have a suspicion if anyone could manage it that person would be you; hehe. In regards to books, also look over your student account to see if Fundamentals has been posted to our BlackBoard (nothing as of today), there may be the listed posted there before it is mailed.
