Anyone in Maricopa CEP Program that take/took NUR104AB class?

Anyone? I am not sure wether I want to take this class or not. Supposedly it reviews the content and is good for when you have questions.

I have two concerns:

1. I have test anxiety. Does this 1-credit class have exams/quizzes too?

2. Inconvenient time. Our classes goes from 8am-12pm. Then we have a three hours break before this class starts from 3pm-4pm. It's a rather long wait for the one-hour class if you don't live nearby.

A little background, this is for block I. For prereq classes I usually get A/B's so I feel fine-ish. Just not sure how really beneficial this class is. Does it really prepare you for the N-CLEX like it said it wouls? Because everyone I know say they feel unprepared after graduation anyways. Going home at noon rather than 4pm, even though only once a week, seems nice.

Any opinions from current / prev students or in general? Thank you ?

I thinking the DocuCare is a new program by Lippencott, so we didn't have to buy it, no. Sorry - I can't help much there.

Good luck next week!

Thank you! ?

I would of course look into it, but you may have to break down and buy that dang program as it is basically required to pass clinical?

Hi Milady, ah more forced expenses. I'm sorry your class were the guinea pigs ? But thank you for giving me more information. ?

Same thing happened to us - we were forced to buy the e-book packages simply because it was linked to the Prep-U quizzes which were mandatory to take. Well - I guess you could have missed them, but then you'd lose a ton of points and it would damage your grade.

In essence - I paid out over a grand for the e-books just because of Prep-U. I don't like the online books, so I always buy the hard copies, but I get the previous edition to save money. They are 99.999% identical. Had it not been for the Prep-U stuff, I would have gotten away with spending maybe $50-100 for books. UGH!!

Yeah, it's was a bit frustrating as I also was not a fan of the ebooks!

I wonder if you can buy the access to Prep-U quizzes separately? That's actually what I'm planning to do since I already got the books separately and not in a bundle.

I found this access code online, but I'm not sure if it's the same with prep-U. Was yours something like this when it came with the bundle?

It'll be great if those work. I did my calculation and buying the books and access codes separately (if you find good deals) is still cheaper than the bundle. And that's even with the bundle discount that the school is offering ($400).

I've always preferred physical books too but after finding out that one of the nursing book is over 6000 pages long, I'm kinda glad that I got mine as a e-book. I bought a really cheap tablet for the sole purpose of nursing school, so I don't have to carry massive amounts of books when I want to study at places ?

Hello! I am a pre-nursing student who is applying for the CEP program in December of this year. I know this post will be a bit premature because I will not know the status of my application till February or March, but I like to be a bit proactive (it helps combat the anxiety). Do each of the community colleges offer NUR104AB every semester? If so, will it be at the same time or does it vary from block to block?

As far as I am aware, every college offers the class. It is pretty much a review class. You don't get a grade for it. The time will vary each block, as will the times for your other classes.

Apple-Core is right. I'm not sure if each community colleges offer it, but i'm gonna say yes since they're all in maricopa and it feels like they're under the same umbrella.

It will be on different times every semester because your classes will be at different times.

For example this semester my classes ate tues, wed, thur. Next semester it'll be on mon, tues, wed.

From what I heard from an upperclassment, the helpfulness of the nur104ab classes really depends on your teacher (and maybe their test-style too). For example, I'm in block I and the whole class kinda feels that the 104 class is a waste of time. The questions are too easy and nothing is like the actual exams. But the upperclassment said that the 104 class in block II is really good. So I guess it really depends ?

I say if you're not short of time and can affort the extra $100 (its a 1-credit class), take it. But be prepared that it might not be the most useful.

Btw the class is pretty much just a bunch of multiple choice questions that you answer together. At least for my class.

Thank you! I was under the impression that all nursing students (regardless of their block) would be in the same class. It is nice that they separate all of the students. Are the questions that you practice in the class similar to NCLEX questions or HESI questions? I may take the class if I get accepted into the program. Hopefully it is at a reasonable time. For $100, I figure it can't hurt.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.

Hi -

Your 104 class will be with your regular cohort, nobody else. Blocks 2, 3 and 4 will have their own review class. It is a 1 credit class, but does not result in an actual credit-grade on your transcript. That doesn't mean you can just no-show for class though - you will be dinged if you don't show up if you enrolled in it.

Just like pototoz said, the value of the class really depends on your teacher. In general I have found it to be reasonably helpful. If nothing else, it gives me an hour with my laptop working through PrepU questions or something. For $100, I would say it's worth it.

Typically we would review concepts that we didn't understand, go over exam questions, review for upcoming exams, HESI questions, and so on. It varied depending on where we were in the semester. What time it will be depends on which school you're at and which block you're in. Every block, your schedule will change. Some blocks I was at school 3 days and lab 2 days, this block I've only been in school 2 days a week!

A lot of people have struggled with the fact that nursing classes are no longer teaching you about the patho/phys etc, it is mainly focused on nursing concepts. I mention this because you can ask questions in review class about that stuff, but don't expect it to be taught in regular class. Your professor will typically expect you to arrive to class having a pretty strong foundation of that stuff so they can get on with the nursing side of things.

Best of luck! Feel free to ask as many questions as you want - this place was a godsend to me when I was in your shoes I asked so may questions!! LOL
