If it's a problem, there are multiple schools in the KC area. The University of Central MO in Warrensburg is about 45 minutes east of KC and has a good MSN program so I've heard. I applied for the spring 2015 cohort. I was under the impression that as long as you pass the certification exam, you should be able to practice nationwide.
Based on my readings, Washington is one of those states that require its residents who attend NP schools based outside of its borders (particularly online programs) to only attend pre-approved institutions by the BON. It seems to boil down to making sure clinical placements are assured via affiliation with Washington-based institutions. I'm not sure how the pre-approval process is done but the list of approved programs run the gamut of for-profit (Kaplan) to well known institutions (OHSU, Johns Hopkins). I'm not sure if this is going to be a trend with the rise of online NP programs but I know NY and one of the Carolinas (NC or SC, not sure) have similar rules.
The Washinton list is found here: http://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/Pubs/669338.pdf
If you're close to Oregon check out OHSU. I know they have a special program for people that are in closeby Washington. The program is supposed to be amazing.
I know there are some for profit schools on that Washington approved list, but please don't be tempted by them. Too many documented problems with for profits.
I would highly recommend you check out Samford University from the approved list. Very reputable program, only a few campus visits, friendly staff (I've spoken to them a few times) high pass rates and good reputation. Also, the deadline for this fall isn't until June so you have time to get it all together and still be able to start this fall if you hurry!
I'm wondering about this. Have you been in contact with the WA DOH Nursing Commission about your situation and school?
As far as advanced practice licensure is concerned, requirements state: the program must be accredited by a nursing or nursing-related accrediting organization recognized by the US Department of Education or Council of Higher Education Accreditation. A CCNE accredited school falls into this category.
If you are talking about doing Clinical Experinces in Washington, the list that Juan provided is great; but it sounds like it's not a complete list. It says:"Information on approval for single student placements is not included in this document. Health care providers and nursing programs are notified of approval status for placement of one student."
Yes, I've talked to the DOH a couple of times. Apparently around 5 years ago, there was an influx of on-line programs conducting clinicals in Washington state without anyone at BON/DOH realizing they were there. So now, they require all programs conducting clinicals in WA to be approved first - it's not a lengthy process nor costly for the university (it's actually free). Why my program couldn't/didn't want to go through it is a mystery to me but I'm letting it go and looking at another program (Creighton). They seem much more willing to gain approval and already have it for their BSN course.

I live in Washington and applied to an on-line program in Missouri 4 months ago (accredited by CCNE). They let me know today that Washington doesn't recognize their graduates. It's a major university program and my friend went 8 years ago without a problem but apparently this changed last year.
Anyway, of COURSE this was the only program to which I applied and now have missed all the other deadlines. Does anyone have any information on this or what I should be looking for in other programs? I called my BON and am waiting to hear back.
