Anyone with held old transcripts?

Published

Im considering doing this because I have an old transcript with a C on it that is really killing me. I'd be more worried about getting found out than feeling guilty.

That particular transcript, from a school I went to a long time ago, only has 2 classes on it ;a Chem with a C and Physio with a B. Both of which I'd like to get rid off so I can retake them without anyone knowing I took them already. (and yes I know about Academic forgiveness but it doesnt work for classes with a grade of C or above.

There's a limit ( as I said in a previous post) of 2 classes you can retake. I'd like to retake 3 -to get my GPA up high enough to guarantee me into the nursing program here (which would be about 3.7 -4.0 for the BSN)

My husband had suggested that I retake them at my current community college to get the higher grade and then just send the University (Im transfering) transcripts from my recent grades. The old transcript I'd like to with old is from a different community college than the one Im at now.

To the best of my knowledge community colleges only print the classes on thier transcripts that you took at THEIR school not any others.

Hope that makes sense....

So has anyone else done this? Does anyone ever get caught? What would happen if you did? It seems like it should be at your discretion anyway, what classes you want to apply to your degree. If you dont wanna use them you shouldnt have too.

Several schools I have been to print the transfer credits on the transcripts as well as putting on there wehre they came from - I wouldn't hedge bets on this one. In addition, if you took out any financial aid, it will show up on a financial aid transcript

I am sure people do it and get away with it, but I don't know that the risk is really worth it. At some schools it would be considered academic dishonesty and grounds for dismissal - not that i know anyone who has been dismissed....

I seem to remember that signing my name on my college application implied that I had listed all schools I had attended and had been honest in answering all of the questions. I would think that the school you want to attend would frown on lying on the application.

You don't want to do something now that could not only jeaporidize your chances at nursing school, but your future career as well.

Besides, the risk of getting caught should not be the determining factor. Gaurd your integrity. Nobody want a nurse who lacks integrity taking care of their loved ones.

I would not withhold a transcript.

I do know for a fact none of the schools in my area will print other schools classes on their transcripts, only the classes you take at their school.

I also wouldnt call it a lack of integrity. I see what you mean about signing an app and swearing you'd submitted all transcripts. But I shouldnt have to use a class I dont need or want. IMHO. Say I took Basket weaving a college A and then took my prereqs at college B. I then wanted to transfer into a BSN at college C. I shouldnt have to send transcripts from college A if I dont want to use them.

I know its frowned upon but its stupid.....(personally)

Why don't you call the school you are interested in and ask? Do it anonymously and find out whether or not they require all of your transcripts or just the ones you want to use, and what the consequences would be for withholding one, if any.

I did not intend to imply that you lack integrity. So sorry if you read it that way.

Best of luck to you.

I will admit that I did withhold an old transcript. Only had a 2.4 GPA when I was 18 :uhoh21: The grades were 15 years old when I applied to the CC here so they weren't transferable anyway. I'm alot older and wiser (well that's up to debate sometimes  ) now and didn't want to be punished for my past mistakes in life - I've already learned from them more than once.

I did it. Not because I had a bad grade, but just that the degree was in Electronics and had nothing worth transfering. Why should I spend time paying for and calling a schoolf for transcripts with nothing on it. I didn't see a problem with it. I don't think it is dishonest. Everyone has the right to transfer what they want to transfer. In the old days (over 20 years ago), it was no big deal. I've attended at least 5 schools, taking courses from alot of different areas just for the fun of it. I would never bother to transfer my French class from a school I attended 20 years ago unless it was a needed credit.

I wish I could do that, but unfortunately, I cannot. I'm not sure I would, even if I could, seeing as how most of my prereqs are at a better school with a higher GPA. On EVERY applicaton I have seen, it states that you must send transcipts from ALL institutions, as well as listing them all, and you MUST sign a statement saying that you have filled out the application completely and accurately, including the transcripts and schools attended. All schools, nursing or not, can and will kick you out if it comes to their attention that you lied on a signed document/application. I'm desperate to get in, also. But what about integrity? It just makes me angry that I'm completely honest in applying, despite my shortcomings, when others are getting in through dishonesty. Shame, shame, shame.

Well said, FurmanGirl!

Even if they do not print the classes on your transcript that you took at the other school, if you transferred those 2 classes to your current school somewhere on the transcript it will say "X amount of transfer credit" and usually from what college.

I took 2 classes at a CC when I was a senior in high school, I have since received a BS degree from an university. When I applied to another university for nursing I sent my transcripts from my BS degree and totally forgot about my transcript from the CC. After they received my transcript, they requested the other transcript because they saw I had 6 credits of transfer credit for my BS degree.

Shame shame shame??? Wow. Everyone has the right to do whatever they want with THEIR college records, you OWN them. This is a free country.

As far as lying on documents that is wrong.

You shouldnt compare your situation to someone else's everyone's college situation is different. I simply had a transcript with only one class on it, at a school I went to 8 years ago and was thinking about not using that class in my prereqs. How does that make someone shameful, good god.

This is funny. Hahahaha!

Thanks, FNPhopeful!!
