Anyone going to PHCC (Pasco-Hernando Community College) for pre-req's or NS?

Published

I am finishing up my pre-req's and would love to see if anyone is in the same boat as I am or even in nursing school. Any advice would be much appreciated! :D

There is this saying that I think pertains to all the "rumors": Believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of

what you see.

Evansmom, bascially it's like your saying all the 24 for each campus didn't deserve their spots.

All my friends who had 4.0's and high TEAS scores got in, so I think they deserved to get in.

I was actually treated rather unjustly by a certain student because I got in and she didn't. Making excuses that people got in because of their race? LOL! My husband is Italian and I'm sure my profile says white, although I have a nice tan I'm not spanish. I went over to Student Development with a friend, spoke with an advisor who said no one has really complained and I don't think PHCC would like to be sued so I'm sure they go by the number system and go down the list.

HopefulRNstudent, basically it's like you ARE saying you don't know what you're talking about.

Never once did I imply, by any means, that anyone who received admission did not deserve it. I have a seat, I have applauded everyone EXTENSIVELY who has received a seat, and I have also sympathized for those who unfortunately, did not.

However, I do know of two people who--according to numbers--deserved a seat, and were declined. Since then, some issues have been straightened out. And Jenn, I don't care to divulge their information, because I'm trying to practice my confidentiality ;) After all, we will be nurses. I choose to lead a righteous life with exemplary integrity and morals, and I don't allow my advantages to make me BLIND to certain injustices. I am not attacking PHCC; I love my school. I am so thankful to be back and getting an education. I think it's important that, as individuals, we question all authority and systems--especially when there appears to be a glaring discrepancy.

I really don't appreciate someone making implications for me. Good luck to you in the program.

Your assertion is still invalid. I pointed out an obvious fact, and it's true, and you know it's true. The top 24 scores DID NOT get in. There was never a reference to whether anyone deserved admission, or not.

As far as your experiences with other students, I am not in Micro, unfortunately. If you are asking others to step back and see your perspective, perhaps you should take a step back and see where these individuals are coming from.

Personally, I would not be surprised if there were other factors utilized in the acceptance process. That's neither here nor there, but this is a public institution.

If you don't have actual scores in your hand and transcripts but just hearsay it's still just as invalid! I don't want anyone's proof because I could really care less. I understand you want to defend your friend and that's fine but I was treated extremely harshly in class for no apparent reason but because I spoke my opinion on the forum and because I was accepted. So this really has nothing to do with you. I understand you are trying to be a good friend and wanting to defend who ever didn't get in. But really it's pointless at this point and I don't feel the need to discuss it anymore. I stated my case and I'm done. Goodluck to you in the RN program.

Lol, you're such a martyr!

It's okay that you couldn't defend your argument, because this had nothing to do with my supposed friends. Rather, you putting words into my mouth!

I hope we're lab partners. See you then!

Holy crow, this got ugly.

I say we all drop it, be thankful for our own statuses, and move forward.

Sorry if I offended anyone by asking what the top scores who did not get in were. I am simply compiling data, and definitely not aslking for anyone's name, so, confidentiality isn't really an issue.

I agree. We have all chosen a career of HELPING people, not tearing them down. I applaud everyone for their hard work. Lord knows, it isn't easy getting to this point. I'm sure emotions are at an all-time high right now. I am grateful for my spot as I'm sure everyone who has been accepted to either program is. Let's move forward here. You never know, we may be working together one day. I'd hate to think for the sake of what I feel is the best profession on the planet, we can't all be happy for one another. No need for this immature he said/she said/ bashing. We are all adults here.

I wish no ill will towards anyone and never hold a grudge. I truly am happy for everyone and that we all have this opportunity! All the best to everyone as we move forward to the beginning of our new careers!!

some of these posts have gotten a bit out of hand with personal attacks and negative remarks. members can only speculate why some got in and others did not. it is very nonproductive to carry on conversation with derogatory and belittling remarks on this or any other public forum. comments here have led to hurt feelings. further negative comments may result in closure of this thread.

i would advise you to take your concerns to the proper authorities at the school. hopefully they can shed some light on the selection process.

i congratulate those who were accepted and am truly sorry for the disappointment of those who were not.

Personally, I would not be surprised if there were other factors utilized in the acceptance process. That's neither here nor there, but this is a public institution.

This, I have recently found out, is most definitely true. While I am not upset by the fact that there are other influences in the "admitted, denited" process, shall we say, I AM upset that they are not publicized for the understanding of ALL who apply. But, PHCC, like hundreds of others, is a state-funded, politically-backed institution. Politics is everywhere and it's life!!!!

Thank you for the intervention, tnbutterfly :) We will proceed in a friendly & supportive manner and give PHCC the good name it deserves!
