Anyone going to PHCC (Pasco-Hernando Community College) for pre-req's or NS?

Published

I am finishing up my pre-req's and would love to see if anyone is in the same boat as I am or even in nursing school. Any advice would be much appreciated! :D

I second the suggestion to take Nutrition online. I did last summer and it was an easy A!

dkerr - are you taking A&P with Hayes? She is AWESOME!!!

No, I have Hendrikson. I am studying bones now. Can you give me some study tips lol. I am dreaming about bones it's crazy!

Thanks you both for the suggestion about nutrition, I will definately take it online in the summer. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to get an A. I have to make up for the B I got in psych years ago.

Hey, I'm at West campus, too! I'm taking A&P 1 lecture and lab, Nutrition online, Ethics and Micro Apps. We are doing bones of course and I haven't really started to study them that much. I'm mostly focused on studying for the TEAS, which I am taking on the 12th. Anyone else taking their TEAS soon?

I plan on taking it at the end of this month and apply to the LPN program and then do the bridge.

Have you look at the threads about the TEAS? There is a lot of great info, especially about the Science part since it is all over the place.

I will be buckling down on bones this weekend. I have Summers for Lecture and Lab I really like him. I should be taking the TEAS this month and I'm taking the BLS on 3/13 at WC. I also am taking MedTerms, Intor to Bio and Human Bio online. I'm almost done w/ Med Terms Two little papers and the final. The other two i'm planning on finishing up ASAP so I can focus on A&P.

As soon as A&P is over I'm applying for the RN program I'm also looking for scholarships as well to keep my family afloat while I'm without a job. Also hoping to get a job while in clinicals at a hospital to pick up a little slack.

Are you applying to other schools? Because you don't need med term or human bio for PHCC. All you need is psychology, comp apps, nutrition, a&p 1 lecture & lab as pre-req's and for co-req's, which I will try to finish before NS school, a&P 2 lecture and Lab, Micro, Micro lab, life span, English 1101, and ethics.

I understand there are scholarships available. They give you the info on those once you are accepted. Also, there is a loan forgiveness program for Nursing in the State of Florida, which is awesome.

I know that med term and my additional courses are not required as pre reqs. I took them to I'd have enough credit hours.

I've already done my other pre-reqs and some of my co-req (nutrition, Micro Comp, Intro to psych, Life Span, Ethics, English Comp all out of the way)

I am definately planning on applying for This fall's program. Can't wait to turn in my application with a grin then wait.

MJ3 I have Summers Mon and Weds too but 5:30 -6:45 and lab on mon 7-8:40 I work full time so I have to take my classes at night right now. But I really enjoy his class.

Awesome! It's best to get then all out of the way. Are you going to just apply for the RN program or are you going for both? There's a thread on here with some of the GPA's and NET scores that were accepted for last January.

Good luck with the TEAS! I am sure you will do great.

I work for Florida Hospital Zhills and as an employee, I am eligible for their tuition reimbursement program. I pay, then they reimburse me. And I sign a contract to work for either 1 or 2 years, depending on how much of my schooling they paid. Definitely look for something like that :-)

I work full time, too. Luckily, I work for an awesomely understanding psychiatrist who encourages me to study while I work and is happy to help me with my homework :) He is even trying to get me to go to med school (I tell him no, nursing is for me haha). He allows me to take time off two mornings a week to go to my classes, but I make up for it at the end of the day with all the catch-up work! But I know I am lucky and am forever grateful to my boss.

Anyway, enough of that lol. I take the TEAS next Friday! I am kind of nervous and kind of excited. I just want to see how well I do! I wish this wasn't the first semester they were using the TEAS so we could get a better idea of what a competitive score was. Any ideas?

I spoke to my counselor last week about it, and she said that my composite score should be in the 90's. Pre-req gpa should be all A's maybe one B to guarantee acceptance. I already received a B in psychology years ago, so I guess I better get all A's in the other pre-req's and maybe take psych over. I know a lot of people that plan on taking the TEAS 3 times before the May 30 deadline, so their score is high enough and they all appear to have high GPA's.

Who did you meet with dkerr? I met with an advisor and she didn't tell my anything nearly as specific! I had to pretty much twist her arm to have her tell me the general GPA you should have.
