I am only in my pre-reqs. I have herd horror stories about not getting high enough scores to get into nursing program. I was wondering if anyone is at CLC, or if anyone can shed light on approximately how long or how many tries does it take to get into the program?
Thanks
i graduated from clc a while back and still have the ulcer from it...many of the crazy loons for teachera are gone...i have to tell you that i disagree with flower chick about 10%...90% of the rumors are true.....but i will agree..if you keep your self grounded, study, and figure out what they are trying to teach you.....you will be fine.....the state board was easier then the finals at clc...so they had me well prepared.
Hey there!! I am getting ready to take the NLN Pre-entrance exam in November.
I did take it last year trying to get into the Fall program this year. In prior years, the cutoff for the fall term was the first week of March. Well, I had just had a baby in September and my schedule was very busy and I didn't know they changed it to the first week of January, so when I went in to sign up for the test, they had two slots left and the test was THE NEXT DAY!! So, needless to say I didn't get to study very much and I took it anyway and got a 70% (which wasn't too bad for not studying!). I am hearing it's in the 80 percentile, but you can't count on it...I know about 2 years ago it was in the 90 percentile. Anyone under that wasn't getting in.
I have a friend who graduated a year ago from there and she said you CANNOT miss a class - if you do you'll be so far behind. So, from the sounds of it, it's tough and you just need to get it done.
Anyone going for the Fall of 2007? I am in Intercultural Communications right now and then I will be taking Micro next semester.
Lori
Hi Lori,
I had applied for January but I'm pregnant so I'll screen for fall. Good luck with the NLN. I did MUCH better the second time I took it. It's funny, I took it the first time this past June and thought I did okay and didn't score as well and took it again in August thinking I didn't do well (pregnant and tired) and scored really high. I enjoyed intercultural comm., and had Leesha Thrower. She's great.

Hey Jaylene.
That is who I have for my communications class. It's going good so far...pretty interesting! So, what did you do differently the second time around? I am PRAYING I get in. If I don't, I will be very upset, but not much I can do!! :uhoh21:
Good luck with your pregnancy!! Is this your first? My husband and I didn't plan to have a baby while I was in school, but it just happened and we cannot imagine life without our little girl!! It'll make it a bit more tough, but hey...life is tough regardless, right??!! When are you due?
Lori
Hey Jaylene, it's me, Collin!
Congrats on the pregnancy! When are you due?
BTW, I loved IC and Dr. Thrower. (That's where I met Jaylene)
As for other comments I know my opinion about the program is unpopular. I guess my thought is that like anything else in life, attitude is key. I went in with the attitude that it was going to be hard, I will have instructors (lots, actually) that I didn't like or click with and some (few) that I found to be exceptional. Performance Exams are ridiculous and literally sucked the life out of me and my family, but after two years of them, I'm done with only minor PTSD. :wink2:
I guess I just don't want new students to feel intimidated before they even start.
Hi Lori, what's your email address so we can keep in touch. Are you going to screen to start next fall. It'd be nice to know someone ahead of time. I'm currently taking A&P and need to take microbiology but have all of the other classes done.Jaylene
Jaylene, you can email me at [email protected] and then I'll give you me main email from there!!
Who do you have for A&P?
There are some major issues with the program dont get me wrong.. you basically have to be self-sufficient or you're going to have a hard time.I will be happy to answer any questions or help. Some of the faculty is great.. you make the best of it.
Can you tell me, what exactly is the process? I know you have to get the higher percentage on the NLN test, but what else? Paperwork? Interview? I have to go to that informational thing again since it's been over 2 years, so I'll be doing that in Oct. And also CPR and my test in November...aaahhh!! :uhoh21:
Well they are in the process of redoing the whole program. Basically the curriculum was developed in the 70s and hasnt been refactored ever. Its a respected program but its pretty much all self-study. You are expected to do a lot outside of class which makes it hard if you have a tight schedule or work/have kids/etc.

The NLN test score is the only criteria used for selection (assuming that you've met the other screening requirments and prerequsites). The cut off percentile score will vary with each screening period. I just got accepted for spring of 2007, and the cut off for our group was 88.

I think I scored high enough to get in for spring 07 but now I'm pg so I'll have to postpone until fall 07. Does anyone know the current mimimal score. I took the NLN once, went in to have the scores interpreted and was told in June 06 that they were looking at around 84+.
Does anyone have any current info.?
Much appreciated.
