Hi, just wondering what their program is like and how you liked it. I plan on taking their next entrance exam and applying for their Sept. 09 class.
Thanks!
Hi LookUp2Sky,
I was just wondering, did you have to become an STNA at Akron Institute? I'm currently in my 2nd day of an STNA course, I had signed up and paid for it awhile ago hoping it would help my chances of getting into Kent. (it didn't haha) But I decided I may as well take it. But now I'm not so sure, and it seems like a waste of time if I dont' plan on working as an STNA. But if you have to become certified anyways at school, I guess it makes sense to keep taking the course. Just thought I'd get your thoughts on it!
Thanks!
Hi, My name is Jessica. I am in the admissions dept at Akron Institute. Please don't hesitate to call me with all of your questions about our nursing program. I can also refer you to a couple of websites to study for the TEAS. My number at the campus is (330)724-1600. Looking forward to hearing from you. Jessica
Hi Barleany - Great to hear from you! I was already an LPN when entering Akron Institute. But, as you know, there is no medical requirement to enter/attend. An advantage, however, to finishing your STNA training is to be able to work part-time in the field if necessary. Also, sometimes after you have finished with school, and are waiting to take boards, it will allow a hospital/organization to hire you on as an STNA until you pass boards, and then transition you to RN after NCLEX. What I am saying is that it is not necessary, however, for a couple of reasons might be advantageous. Also, if you are working as an STNA, you become familiar with things like ambulating patients with IV poles, transferring from beds to wheelchairs/walkers, how to roll a patient, how to change linens in an occupied bed, etc. That training in itself may help you while you are in clinicals. I think, too, that it helps you become comfortable with walking into a patient's room. A lot of people are very nervous about this, and it's one of those things that goes away after you do it several times.
I hope I sufficiently answered your questions. I see you have a post from someone directly from Akron Institute...that's awesome. I am glad to see that they are hiring people willing to help out-YEAH!!
Let me know if you have any other questions. In the meantime, keep up the good work. You are moving forward!!! It's a good direction to go-LOL.
I have been hearing that if you graduate from the Akron Insitute with an RN degree employers are more opted to hire someone with a degree from Stark State or Kent State, because of there reputation.
I also noticed that Akron Insitute posts in there description of the program that it will give a you a career as an entry level RN. I wonder what that means?
If there is someone out there that graduated from Akron Inst. and have a job, how much are you making? Can you provide me all the info you know about the school/program, I just want to make sure I am making the right decision. I am taking the teas on 10/16/09 and am very nervous. Thank you!
I graduated from Akron Institute this past May. We were only part of the 3rd class through the program. I would say 99% of us passed the NCLEX first time around.
Several of us have found good jobs and are working right now. Some of my classmates are aiming at specific specialties etc., and are having a tougher time.
Anyone that graduates from ANY program as an RN, is an entry-level RN. That's just the way things work. A person would no longer be entry-level, after they have some RN experience under their belt.
This post is later than the date of your TEAS test, but I hope all went well. Akron Institute is just about to be accredited, and to my knowledge, does not have a waiting list...like Stark, Kent and Akron (so far). The fact that it's accelerated makes it tough, however, if a person keeps their nose to the grindstone, they can be finished in as little as 18 months (some sooner). Sorry I can't offer salary information, that is just standard procedure. Hope you understand.
Good luck with AI and your future!
AI's program was not the easy, you only get 8 weeks per course. Some of my classmates were able to maintain their fulltime jobs but it was not easy. I choose to go there because they allowed me to get to my goal of becoming a RN quicker than Akron or Kent. I was able to get a position at a LTACH in the Cleveland area.
Hello all!
I have recently passed and applied to the nursing program and found out I am placed on the "alternate" list. I am happy that I made the alternate list as I was told over 200+ applied, but was wondering what are the chances of getting in as an alternate? Only 30 are accepted and I guess there is an assumption that a few will not actually enroll and they will start the alternate list.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
I am now on the verge of graduating (December...woohooo!!) and I continue to stand on what I said before.
The school is tough, but I'd rather have a nurse caring for me who could make it through a tough program than not.
Second, now that I have all my clinicals under my belt, we have had nothing but high praises from the nurses and nurse managers regarding most of our students.
The class that graduated in September...13 of 15 passed NCLEX first try. The last I heard, the other 2 haven't taken the exam yet (though this may have changed I don't know).
I have complete and total confidence that I can take on the responsibilities as a new nurse that is required and even more.
As seen in other posts by me and students that also attend or attended the school, there were bumps but those are being ironed out, though I think most have already been ironed out if not almost all of them.
I am going for my nursing degree and considering Akron Institute's accelerated program. I was advised to make sure that it is accredited through NLN. I saw a previous post that indicated that Akron Institute is not as of yet, but they are in the process of getting this accreditation. This concerns me since the school is so expensive. Any comments? Thanks.
Hi,
I am considering Akron Institute as well and share the same concerns as you. I noticed no one responded to your post and was wondering if you found information from other sources. I don't want to call Akron Institute because I don't want to get bombarded with solicitation calls from them. lol. I know what I want and don't want them trying to coerce me into coming in for a visit just so they can try to sell me on their program. At the price they are asking they should definitely be registered with NLN, which the last I checked they were not. I know they are pursuing this but still... I don't even doubt that their program is good, in fact it sounds very good, but the bottom line is, will employers respect the degree?

Hi Hoping, I wouldn't worry about the TEAS at all. I signed up for it like 2 days before I was supposed to take it and decided to look it up on here and got all freaked out because a lot of people failed it and a bunch of people had bought review books and stuff, so I thought I'd be way under prepared. But it wasn't bad at all!!
If you want to review, I did a search on TEAS test stuff and found this link:
http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0809222302/student_view0/
if you click on the chapters you can do a practice review and it's pretty much the level of questions on the teas test. And it will give you the background for it.
I also agree with the above poster, but I had asked someone who recently graduated and someone who works there and I believe it's now in the higher $29K. But I believe it will be worth it.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
