Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone is from, or lives near Ohio City (in Cleveland.) My husband and I have found a house there that we have fallen in love with and are thinking about buying. I grew up in Parma, hubby is from N. Royalton (we live in Akron now) so I don't know a whole lot about the neighborhood. Just looking for some input. Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather - it's about time!! :)

Hmmm. I've lived in Geauga County (east side of Cleveland )for 13 years and I've never heard of Ohio City...what county is it in?

It's in Cuyahoga, right outside of downtown Cleveland. It's a small area, "historic district." I'm beginning to think that we're better off in our apartment - the whole house hunting process is much more stressful then I thought it would be!!

I grew up in North Royalton. I've heard of Ohio City, but it just doesn't ring a bell as to where its located. If you're looking for work try Parma Community General Hospital in Parma or Southwest General in Middleburg Hts. I've heard over the years that the hospital in Medina has really grown and has a very nice reputation. If you want to go with a big medical center try University Hospital (a little bit of a drive) or the Cleveland Clinics.

Kelly - I love Ohio City, my husband and I really wanted to move there, but it was too expensive for us. Its the coolest part of Cleveland. You get a real urban experience living there, but with a small town feeling at the same time. I lived in Tremont for years, its right next to Ohio City. They both have great restaurants, you can take walk to almost everything and the West Side Market is right there! Its not actually a city, its a neighborhood in cleveland, like tremont. Let me know if you bought the house and how you like it. My sister lives on Jay Avenue and she loves it. There are a few characters hanging around on W. 25th but nothing major. It's a safe neighborhood.

Please give more details on this area. I know I was in that area years ago, I am interested in the change. I used to love going to the West Side Market.

I live in Lakewood, just a short drive down the Shoreway from Ohio City, but work in the general area. It's definitely an area on the up-and-up, with lots of old Victorian-style homes being newly renovated & restored. There's a lot of "chic" restaurants in the area (Johnnie Mango's, Heck's, the Brewing Company), the West Side Market, lots of funky little shops, and some great antiques places on Lorain. It's also really close to downtown, there's a lot of public transportation in the area, and it's really one of the most unique areas in Cleveland. All that said, I still wouldn't personally live there myself, because it's just simply put, a dangerous area in my opinion. I would not feel safe walking my dog around there anywhere at night. Ohio City itself might feel kind of safe, but walk a few blocks in any direction, and there's public housing high rises, 'drug houses' boarded up, homeless people sleeping in the square across the street from the Market... Not exactly my cup of tea, but if you're a real city girl at heart, go for it.

hello,

i grew up in Cleveland, and i lived in Akron for 12 years right next to city hosp. I now live in Youngstown. Ohio City is nice. It's on the west side of Cleveland. Which isn't a bad area. You have a lot of access to shopping and the freeway is very close and it's also close to downtown and the West Side Market. . You do have to watch the lower west side from W 25th- W. 98th. Unseemly characters. It's an older part of Cleveland. I am african american and I never ventured on that side of town much unless for shopping for anitques, thrift stores or to go to Edgewater park to fish or for the beach.

Nice to know when I was young, much poorer, and new to the town I was perceived as an unseemly character because we rent on W.48th .

didn't mean to offend. what i meant was that there are a lot of guys standing around looking as if they want to rob you or worse and a lot of the young men hand out too. Also the park has been recently known as a place for predators to hang out and that's not too far from Ohio City. Being black a lot of people would look at me that way on the west side of Cleveland . LOL!.... I do like Ohio City though and yo do have to be cautious these days no matter where you live and in what type of community. It doesn't matter race or economic standing. Crime crosses all those borders.

I live in Youngstown, now and I grew up in Cleveland and lived in Akron for 12 years. They say the area I live in now is not great and the same happened wherever I moved in Akron. Being from Cleveland I thought if this is the worse you got then bring it. No place to me is worse to live than in Cleveland right now no matter if it's on the East or West side.

I am 44 years old and my husband 49. We raised five children in Cleveland and the last two in Akron. I have been on both sides of town and the West side seems to be a lot better than the East.

Im curious - you live in Lakewood, are you a nurse, where do you work and where did you go to school? Thanks.
