Anyone ever worked 7 on/7 off shift?

It sounds 2 good 2 be true...U should find out what shifts u would be working 4 these 7 days. 8 hour shifts is not so bad but if there r night shifts included it can be very tiring and affect work performance.

I do nights 8 on 6 off now as the Charge Nurse in a busy ER.

It allows me to "flip" from a night schedule to a day schedule and not be caught between. I love it. And with a mere 80 hours of vacation time, I get 20 days off!

If they are 12 hour shifts you'll be ready for your own ER after a full week.

I am working 7 on/7 off in a small Texas hospital, and I can tell you that this is the single reason why many nurses stay here. It is just awsome. I love my schedule. We do 8 hr shifts Mo-Fr and 12 hr shifts Sa+Su.

But we get payed for the full 40 hrs.

That's the schedule - 5 8's & 2 12's. I'll have to clarify the pay because I'm sure it would be exhausting to HAVE to pick up shifts in your off week to get the hours. Thanks for the input!

They're 9 hour shifts...10:30p-7:30a, or 36 hours per week. As part of our night shift benefit, we get paid for 40.

I tried this for awhile and absolutely loved it. I also did the work 2/16hr shifts on Fri and Sat or Sat and Sun then have 5 days off (paid for 40). It was a killer to do but having that 5 days off afterwards was great. I switched to the 7 on and 7 off when I got too far in my pregnancy that the 2 back to back 16 hour shifts were just way too much. I'd love the oppurtunity to do the 7/7 again.

I'm a new LPN job hunting and interviewed for a 7 days on/ 7 days off position. I had never even heard of this schedule. Initially sounds good but was wondering if anyone has any real life experience working this way? Thanks!

I love it! Wouldn't change it for the world.... That week off is awesome and it's a whole new challenge at the job when you come back. A good challenge!

In the UK norm to do a week of nights and then have the following week off. I worked permanent nights for 8 years doing this and was great. Bearing in mind we do internal rotation here in the UK to a major part
