Anyone in Enterprise or Dothan area?

Published

Hello, I will soon be moving to the Enterprise area. My husband is active duty Army. I am appyling to the ADN at Wallace. Does anyone here know anything about the acceptance rate or just general info on the nursing program. It seems like a good one, but I am not for sure.

Well I have an aquaintance that was stationed with us in Germany and it now here as well and she is a RN. She works at Flowers and said the pay has gone up since she was here about 4 or so years ago. The cost of houses has gone up here in Enterprise, so hopefully they will up the pay scale to offset the cost of homes. The taxes are still dirt cheap. I think we pay 200.00 a year for our home. We were shocked. Plus someone told us that they wont tax my husbands retirement from the military here.. dont know how true that is.

Yes, it's true that AL does not tax govt. pensions (actually, any defined-benefit pension). My hubby never paid state income tax anywhere (Resident of CA, but always domiciled elsewhere) and moving to PA was a shock for him. There are no deductions or exemptions on state income tax here and then the 1% local tax. Enough to make you sick! I suspect wages have gone up tremendously. In fact, I had talked to the nurse recruiter at SAMC a few months ago and they had per diem positions that paid around $30/hr--can't remember the exact amount. I think the base rate for a new nurse was around $17 if I remember correctly. That's interesting that your friend from Germany is there also. When we moved to AL (after Germany) we had about 6 other couples from our unit all move to Rucker.

Yeah alot of couples that we even knew a few duty stations ago are here. I guess what they say is true. Its a small world. Thats why I always tell new military spouses that you need to watch what you say and do around people because you never know when you may meet up again. And its so true with us. Its kind of nice though living in a neighborhood with a little older crowd. They keep to themselves and dont get in our business. Just as I like it. Living on post tends to be a soap opera that I dont have time for. well its so good to chat with someone even though I dont even know you. All my close friends are still in Germany. Hopefully I will meet some nice girls in school to talk with. I am a talker, just not a gossiper.. Hope I spelled that one right. Anyway.. I might have some more questions soon. Thanks for responding.

Hey there, I have been at Flowers for 4 yrs now and love it. I really don't ever plan on leaving ( I hope).

Yeah I have heard that Flowers Hospital is a great place to work. I guess we will see how things go in two years.

Hi, i'm Katrina and this is my first post. Amy, I received my acceptance into Wallace's LPN-RN Mobility Program. I am excited and also nervous. I've been a LPN for two years; however, i'm driving 1 1/2 hr each way. I live in Columbus GA. I hope to see you at orientation next week.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Hello Katrina. I thought my drive was bad being 40 minutes from Enterprise to Dothan. Wow... Was there no nursing school where you are? Thats great that you have already been an LPN though. At least you already know alot of what to do.. I am going in blindsided. What classes are you having to take this semester. You have probably already had the ones I have to start out with.

We had our orientation a few weeks ago. They might be doing it different for the LPN-RN mobility program. Good luck with school if I dont ever meet you.
