Anyone in Enterprise or Dothan area?

Published

Hello, I will soon be moving to the Enterprise area. My husband is active duty Army. I am appyling to the ADN at Wallace. Does anyone here know anything about the acceptance rate or just general info on the nursing program. It seems like a good one, but I am not for sure.

Amy

Hello again, I know what you mean about deployments. My husband just got back from a year long one. That is what extended us here another year. Yeah I went to Poland twice to get polish pottery. Its kind of addicting. hehe.. Did you get your nursing degree in Alabama?

Amy

No, actually I got it in NC when he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. In Germany, I worked for awhile as a school nurse, but resigned because he had to go to school in the US for about 4 months (immediately after a year-long deployment to Bosnia) and I wanted to go and spend time with him. Actually, he was TDY at Rucker and I remember him saying, "Take a good look around, we'll never see this place again." Well, about a year later we PCSd there. You just never know. The only bad thing about that area is the wages. The last time we were there ('98), I made $14 or $15 an hour. Moved to El Paso, Tx and jumped up to $25--amazing! Of course, we bought a new house for $120,000, property taxes approx. $30 per month, AND they picked-up our trash twice a week for free. That was in Dothan. I just called a realtor in Huntsville to get some info. Life here in PA just seems so expensive. There's even a local income tax!

My husband should retire from Ft Rucker. So we have been looking at homes to buy as well. The houses have gone up alittle for some reason. But the property taxes are cheap. I guess thats what saves people. We were stationed at Bragg as well before coming over here. We were there 4 long years..hehe.. I worked at Cape Fear Hospital in the Patient Accounts Dept. I always heard the nursing program there was like a 2 year wait.

That's funny--we were stationed at Bragg, went to Germany, then Rucker, then Bliss, then Huachuca. Now he retired (November) and we moved to PA. I also noticed that housing went up. What was $120,000 when we were there now seems to be 140s-150s. I will say that wages seemed to be quite a bit higher in Fayetteville, unless things have changed. I really liked the Fayetteville area (certain parts), but hubby hated the 82nd Airborne. I think he hated all the running:chuckle

Hey, my husband was at Bragg the first time with 82 airborne. Then he switched over to aviation and went to Germany for 5 years, then back to Bragg where I met him up in Ft. Eustis,Va. She he was Bragg,Germany once before we had to do it again.hehe.. We are looking at homes to buy down in Rucker, and we havent found anything that is what we really want for less than 190,000. These new homes that they are sticking up are right on top of other houses, and less square footage. I told the realtor that I wanted something more established. A somewhat older home that is build rock solid and more land to it. We will see I guess what we end up with. The rentals there are horrible from the pictures I see. My husband is really banking on me getting into this nursing program in the fall. Wish me luck..I am going to need all I can get.

Depending on where he will be working at Rucker, you might consider Brentwood neighborhood in Dothan. It sounds just like what you are looking for. Well- built homes that are a bit older and a fantastic neighborhood. In case you can't tell, I'm a huge proponent of living in Dothan. The first time we lived there, we lived in Daleville and I almost died of boredom. Dothan has all the restaurants, shopping and jobs. Also, if you are going to Wallace College, the drive may be shorter (would actually have to check a map). Try realtor.com and look up zips 36303 and 36305. If you PM me your email address, I will find and email youa couple houses that are reasonable and on the West side of town which is about a 30 minute commute to main post. We had friends living in Enterprise around Shell Field that had a longer commute. Flowers hospital was literally across the highway (Hwy 84) from where we lived in Chapelwood. I certainly understand that you may have decided on Enterprise

I'm in the Wallace Comm. College program right now, 2nd semester- finals in two weeks :w00t: . I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Hi Lynnsey! I graduated from Wallace 3 years ago. It's a great school. Are you in the LPN or RN program?

Hey Lynnsey, I sent you a private message. I dont know if you got it. I was asking you some questions about Wallace.

Thanks

Amy

RN program all the way!! Love it so far but finals & 3 more semesters to go!! :yelclap:

Hang in there! I loved the RN program also. I just heard that my favorite teacher quit... Ms. "F", you prob know what I mean. PM me if you know the details!

@LoriAlabamaRN

You wrote me a very kind pm when I´ve entered this forum.

Sorry for beeing offline since October 05. I´ve prepared myself for the TOEFL. It was real hard work. But I passed in March this year. And on April 21st I´ve sent my application to Wallace. So now please keep your fingers crossed. When we visited Wallace first time I felt home. It´s a very nice campus and the staff there - espacially Ms. Jacobs - is very helpful and couthie.

Here is another Ft. Rucker Fan :) . My husband is a flight instructor and helicopter pilot with the German Army. He did all his flight training in Rucker. Well, when I´m followed him to his examiner course in 2003 I´ve lost my heart to Rucker. Since then we are dreaming about living in the Dothan area. My husband has a close friend in Newton. And so we´re working very hard on coming back. Because we both aren´t US Citizen we have to immigrate. Therefor we need a visa. So I decided to become a RN in the US, not in Germany.

May your husbands be safe all the time!
