Thanks alot for your input. I don't think I am going to let my husband read this post. He is a little scared of the sciences and I don't want to discourage him. Hopefully I can help him out a bit because I already made it clear to him that I am not doing his work for him :angryfire I have my own work to deal with. I will just tell him to don't procrastinate. Did you have to write lab reports and if you did, did Prof. Simmons at least tell you in what format? I really do not like professors that are not helpful at all. I wanted my husband to have a different and better experience than I did. I took A &P I and II at the community college where we live and I swear we all taught ourselves. My professor knew nothing really and she was reading the book in lecture class right along with us. She did not know the answers to questions students asked her and our labs were a joke. We rarely did any labs. To tell you the truth I know Anatomy more than the Physiology so that is why I need to learn this stuff all over with my husband because I can tell you, I did not get my money's worth in those two classes. :(

The lab reports that we had to do were the questions directly from the lab book (almost like a study guide), and then we had to re-write the entire thing (questions AND our answers) in WORD, the cut and paste into the form on the Bulletin Board/School site and submit to him. There were no papers to write (for our class at least. It was only 6 weeks, w/ a test every 3 days, so no time at all) or reports to do, but we did have homework in the form of answering questions from the text (unit-type questions). Same deal, write in WORD then cut-n-paste and submit.

Honestly, he wasn't around enough on the boards to know if he WAS knowledgeable, or just a warm body to supervise that we did our work. Our homework and labs were never sent back as the syllabus stated, but we would look at our grade sheets to see what our grades were. Mine were always the highest score (a "20" I think), but as the class drew to a close, I got lazy and didn't answer all the questions completely (the text didn't answer 1/2 of the lab book questions needed, so I had to Google a lot!), but still got a 20. I think at the end I could have submitted a chapter from a Stephen King novel and he wouldn't have noticed.

I hope he's improved. Yes, I feel the ENTIRE thing was self-study. Like I said, he couldn't answer one question I had on the endrocrine system. And he has a doctorate in this stuff????

Good luck to your husband. Just make sure he spends a LOT of time with it. The tests are pretty straightforward, and you get like 2 min/question, but there is only 25-30 questions, so they count for a lot.

Is his a 6-week course also, or a full-semester one?

this thread sounds interesting - what school is this? is it a separate school or affiliated with a real (meaning bricks and drywall and furniture and stuff) school? are they college level courses? is it expensive?

I guess if someone could post a link, I could answer these questions myself so, could someone help?

after 11 years in nursing, multiple certifications and a Master's, I've decided to take the plunge and apply to CRNA school but I have a year to wait (need ICU experience and I start next month) so I thought maybe to help my chances I would possibly redo some way old undergrad classes like A & P and such - my husband thinks I'm a masochist but what nurse isn't? LOL

Mama,

The link to EduKan is http://www.edukan.org. The classes are $155 per credit. EduKan is the online Community Colleges Consortium for the following community colleges in Kansas; Barton County, Colby, Dodge City, Garden City, Pratt, and Seward County. It provides you the opportunity to obtain your complete associate degree online through the EduKan consortium. Each college is now accredited to offer associate degrees online. Good Luck on your CRNA efforts!

I took A&P1 through EDUKAN w/Tricia Reichert. She was excellent. She responded to all questions that I had, and was very interactive with the class and very knowledgeable. The class was the most challenging and time consuming that I have taken yet, but worth it. It was a 12 week course, looks similar to Simmons, however more assignments. In addition to the end of chapter questions, and lab exercises there was a webliography due each week as well, plus a quiz and test. Also at the end we doubled up chapters for a few weeks, so doubled the work. Good Luck.

Thanks alot for the details. You have really answered all of my questions. My husband's course is 8 weeks long. It will probably be in the same accelerated format as yours was. I hope the book comes soon so that he can start studying. He already goes to a 4 yr college and will finish next year in the Fall, so he is just taking on the pre reqs as well to get into nursing school. I will definitely print out your information so he can see how you felt the class was. Thanks for your time.

Hello everyone-

I am currently enrolled for the A&P classes at Edukan. I am signed up for A&P I summer 2005 and A&P II Class fall 2005. My question; were the classes listed as online on transcripts. The schools here in the Pacific Northwest Oregon, are very slow at accepting online classes, unless it is with local colleges. The transfer of courses can be from an accredited school, which Edukan qualify. I would like to take A&P classes online, and finish chemistry online with Edukan, so any feed back form will be appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

I realize I'm diggin up an old thread here but I wanted to know how everyone's experience was?

And also, did you *have* to buy the book through their bookstore or can you get it elsewhere?

Thanks!

I just finished A & P II. I took both A & P I & II with edukan. Made an "A" in both courses. Just glad to be done! Both courses were good. A & P I had more work to do, so less time to read. A & P II had alot of work, but I guess with my medical background I didn't find the assingments bad (case studies).

On to Nursing Concepts 3!
