MelodyLPN,
I am registering to start March 14th. What professor do you have? Can you tell me a little about the class and how you like it?
It is good, the only compliant I have is not knowing how you did on a quiz before you take the test. I tend to miss the same questions! Go figure.
Otherwise it is intense. We are doing chemistry now, and it is mindboggling!
Can't wait to get to something easier for me! (Skeletal, cardiac, etc.....)
The lab is fun. I am not sure on the textbook yet, I am not sure if I like it.....
Written on a higher level than freshman level college, I feel like I need a PhD sometimes! Otherwise I am passing with a "A" average so far......that will change after I test tomorrow! Good luck.
Who is your instructor?
Looks like I have John Simmons as the professor. He does not have the syllabus posted or the what book we are using and the course starts in 10 days! I would have liked to read ahead as I know its going to be very intensive. Are you going to take A&P II through them? I still have micro and chem to take as well. I am sure you will go well on your test. The chemistry is going to be hard for me as well as I haven't taken Chem yet...

Hi,
I have just signed up my husband for A & P I with John Simmons for March 14th. He said that he would try it because he works too much to sit in class right now. He is trying to get into the same nursing program that I am in beginning in the Fall. We bought the Marieb book that was listed on the website. It all came out to $222.00. I figured out that I would help him a bit because I took A & P I and II through the local community college. I heard Marieb was easier than the book that I had used. I think you will be alright. It is hard, but it is doable. I guess you and my husband will be classmates.

I"ve not done A&P but I"ve taken plenty of other classes. Just make sure there is no procrastination. It's easy to get behind.

I took A&P1 thru EduKan w/John Simmons last summer. It was a 6 week course - very intensive! As much as I like getting it done and over with, I must say that I didn't find Prof Simmons to be very helpful, and was basically non-existant on the boards we were required to post on. We had to do 3 "meaningful" posts per unit, and while all of us students did OUR part, he only posted like once or twice throughout the whole term, and only responded to a post maybe twice.
I emailed him a question one time about a pancreatic function, and not only did he not know the answer, but just told me I didn't need to know it, so don't worry about it. I KNEW I didn't need it for the class, but it was something I WANTED to know.
He was good about grading tests and homework and posting the grades quickly. But he sort of had to be, as we had a unit test every 3-4 days, and homework due before each, so he had to be on the ball.
We also did not get the syllabus on time, and I didn't have my book for the start of class, or the lab manual either, which had all the homework in it. The CD's were a necessary part of the class also, and that was missing. Very disorganized. We did use the Marieb book, but NOT the Marieb lab manual. I don't know if that has changed or not though.
Good luck!
Thanks alot for your input. I don't think I am going to let my husband read this post. He is a little scared of the sciences and I don't want to discourage him. Hopefully I can help him out a bit because I already made it clear to him that I am not doing his work for him :angryfire I have my own work to deal with. I will just tell him to don't procrastinate. Did you have to write lab reports and if you did, did Prof. Simmons at least tell you in what format? I really do not like professors that are not helpful at all. I wanted my husband to have a different and better experience than I did. I took A &P I and II at the community college where we live and I swear we all taught ourselves. My professor knew nothing really and she was reading the book in lecture class right along with us. She did not know the answers to questions students asked her and our labs were a joke. We rarely did any labs. To tell you the truth I know Anatomy more than the Physiology so that is why I need to learn this stuff all over with my husband because I can tell you, I did not get my money's worth in those two classes.

I could kick myself! Yesterday when I went to register the class was available but there wasn't a syllabus and it didn't tell you what books to buy. So I emailed Dr. Simmons and he replied with the syllabus and what books we need. He told me to hurry up and register as the class fills quickly. Sure enough as I go to register today it is no longer available. I emailed him again to see if he could take another student but I haven't heard anything back yet. Has anyone taken A&P II first? Does it make things harder? He is also teaching II and the class is still open.
When I took the class, a couple of friends of mine took A & P II first and then took A & P I next. I took both classes and for me, one has nothing to do with the other. It is a continuation but not in that way that you are building on information from the first class and then taking the last part to finish up the sequence. It is only my opinion, but I think you can do it. Just study hard as if you were taking A & P I. I also think you should sign up for A & P II and keep checking back to see if anyone dropped or did not pay by March 11th. I dropped this class for a friend of mine because she wanted to take it with my husband but she did not have the money to pay and would not have it by March 11th, so she asked me to drop for her. Then another friend of mine wanted to take the same class as well so I signed her up for A & P II and checked back a little later and then the spot that I dropped my friend from became available. I then signed up the other friend. ( I hope this is not confusing, I tend to ramble alot :) Anyway, my other friend that is signed up did not pay for the class yet, she keep telling me that she is going to do it. I know you can't wait around until the 11th but like I said if you want sign up for II and I can let you know if the other friend is going to pay for the class or not, because if she doesn't that spot will be available.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the advice on being able to take A&P II first. I will go ahead and register for it just incase I can't get into I. If your friend does end up dropping, please let me know so I can keep checking to see when the spot opens up.
Ok will do. I will send you a PM if she does drop, but like I said, someone else may drop as well and you would be able to sign up. The book is the same for both I and II so you can buy the book and it will be on the way no matter which section you take. But I will let you know.
Good Luck!!!
:)
