Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

nyforlove, thank you...I graduated in May '07 with my bachelors.
Had a bad job experience first off ... was there 2 months.
Been in the CVICU for 1 year with great mentors and support.
I am heart training in 2-4 weeks ... I'll take 15 fresh hearts, then I'll be certified.
I am now studying for the GRE .. I hate vocabulary so it will be a challenge and a half.
Looking to apply to CRNA in September ... time will tell.
Thanks for the encouragement.
which hospital in longview u work?
I have registered to take CCRN on Aug 26. I am more than a little nervous, but I am praying that I can pass this thing. I have been an ICU nurse for almost 3 years and spent the lasst 6 months in CVICU. I just hope my experience along with the studying will be enough!
Hey jennjen!!! You definitely have found the right thread!! What are you using for your studying? There certainly is a lot of good resources out there but as people have gone through this process on this thread, we have found some great reliable resources that has proved to be 100% succcessful for everyone so far. I highly recommend the Dr Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio course on the CCRN: www.greatnurses.com and the Robin Donohoe Dennison PASS CCRN. It is a reference book that has WAY too much information in it for the CCRN, use it as a reference only, but what is invaluable is the disc that comes with it with questions that are formatted and the tests are set-up exactly like the CCRN. We have found that the scores you get on the disc correlates almost exactly to the actual score you willl receive on the CCRN, so it is a great predictor of when you are ready!! http://www.amazon.com/Pass-CCRN%C2%AE-Robin-Donohoe-Dennison/dp/0323025927/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1216136486&sr=1-1
Don't pay attention to the review on amazon, the disc is honestly worth its weight in gold for preparing for and building your confidence in taking the exam.
I have no doubt that with your great experience, with these resources and with the support that you will find here on this thread that you absolutely WILL pass your CCRN. I would set that concern aside and use the process as a time to become more confident, and solidify your already extensive knowledge base. It really is a very empowering process. Please use us here as much as you want!! And if you feel comfortable, please tell us a little about yourself.

I am using the Vonfrolio DVDs and the Pass CCRN CD ROM as well as Woodruff's CDs. I have been studying a little the last few weeks, but I just now starting an intesive study program. I am not currently doing very well on the CD ROM questions, only about 60-65% average...but I have just started to study.
As far as a little about me...I am 26 years old and have been a nurse for almost 4 years. I have done some travel nursing, but now I am back home in Southern Alabama. My experience is mostly ICU with some transplant and currently CVICU. I am not married and have no children (unless you count my two dogs, which I do.) I am excited to take the CCRN, mostly to prove to myself that I can do it. The extra $1 per hour is a minimal benefit. My coworkers have all been very supportive and offered great advice. Knowing that I have the support of all of you is going to make it that much easier to achieve!

Of course dogs count as children!! I have 3 and they certainly are my babies!! Did yours travel with you??
I wouldn't discount doing 60-65% on the Donohoe CD on your first attempts...that is actually very good scores!! You only need 70% to pass, so it gives you some idea how great you are doing already!! Very impressive!!! I know there are others out there studying so I hope they will join as it is always fun to do this process with others. CVICU experience will help you immensely with the emphasis on hemodynamics. Have you gone throug the pacep.org website? It is an excellent review for hemodynamics that I like to go through ever month or two just to keep everything fresh in my mind. www.pacep.org
You are going to do great...the best advice is to have fun with this experience. Also, if you can teach what you are learning to people at work, that will really help as well!! I envy you this time. :yeah:
all right xigris!!! way to go!!!ccrn and cmc!!!! very impressive!!!

i definitely thought cmc was more difficult!
you might be right. i felt terible while i was taking the exam. i always had two answers that were correct and trying to decide which one was the best answer was a slight struggle. ended up going to bathroom twice because of stress ( oopppss not what you think it is, but to wash my face with cold water. my face get hot, flushed when i think that the exam is hard. )

Alll right!!! Welcome to our little thread. There are a lot of supportive people who have successfully achieved their CCRN and current folks who are studying as well who post here. I would encourage you to use this support tool as fully as possible. It can be very empowering. Sometimes, people at work may not be as supportive as one would like, but being in communication with other like-minded nurses can make the difference!
If you feel comfortable, please tell us a little about yourself.
