Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

thanks guys! i passed with 105/125 correct answers. i did horrible on gi/renal, but i can live with that! i mostly focused my study on cardiac/pulmonary/neuro/endo, and i think my results reflect that.

-----------------------------

cardiac: 88%

pulmonary: 86%

endocrine: 100%

hematology/immunology: 100%

neurology: 83%

gi: 57%

renal: 67%

multisystem: 80%

professional/synergy: 84%

------------------------------------

i *highly* recommend the gasparis review - someone loaned me their review tapes which i listened to while driving around for several weeks. i learned a lot from it. i also did a lot of review questions from the "pass ccrn" book and examined both the answers and the rationales. i did a review class at work which covered a lot of the systems (i only attended 1/2 review days).

thanks again for the hints, support and well wishes!

woohoo!!!! congratulations ghillbert ccrn!!!!!! :yeah::yeah::yeah:

i took my CCRN test 20 years ago, it was 80% cardiac back then. things were different back then, the boss just told you one day that you were going next. i had seen other nurses i admired study for 6 months and still fail the exam. i didn't study a bit, didn't plan on passing. my goal was to get my name at the bottom of the boss' list of people to be sent again. it was the fastest test i ever took. went with my first instinct, no second guessig. i felt no pressure. i fulfilled my end of the bargain. i showed up and took the test. surprise surprise. i passed the first time. maybe there is something to the layed back attitude i took after all. go figure! good luck to all that go for it. it's quite an accomplishment and you can feel good about it.

i think there should be a national CCRN day.......that is not part of nurses week....after all, those of us certified have already proved we are set apart and dedicated to critical care nusing, above and beyond the RN license. we should have our own special day! :twocents::idea:

You have GOT to be kidding!! That must have been mind boggling to just be told that you had to take the 'test' the next day! Congratulations on passing!! I do think there is something to be said to having a laid back attitude!!

Thanks for sharing that!! Yes, there should be a national CCRN day!!

.hi everyone!!

i am very puzzled about how you renew the ccrn with the cerps. where do you go to do this and does it cost anything. i have not taken the test yet, but i would like too. just wanted to have everything all together before i made up my mind to do it. i just can't find the cerp's. if anyone could help, i would greatly appreciate it. congrats to all who have passed the test.:nurse:

I was being cagey about the exact day haha! Alright, I'm sitting it Tuesday morning. Going away for the weekend on a roadtrip, so I can't panic too much over the weekend!! Not sure about a reward, but I think if I get this certification, my next goal will be the -CSC attachment. Since work reimburses it and all!

Hey!!! Congrats on passing the test:yeah::yeah::icon_hug::nmbrn:

What is the CSC attachment? I don't think that I have heard of it.

Thanks

Both of the last 2 posters, all the info about certification exams (and recertifying by CEs) is at http://www.aacn.org

CSC and CMC are subspecialty exams (cardiac medicine and surgery) which can be taken and added to another certification (eg. CCRN-CSC) to show a cardiac specialty.

when you apply to take your initial ccrn exam, you should definitely join the aacn, there are many benefits, one of which is free cerp's through their website. they have articles (i think most are from their magazine) and you need to pass the test at the end of the article, and then you achieve 'credit' for that article. what is really great is that your ongoing transcripts are stored on-line for you, so you know exactly how many more cerps you need for recertification. they also indicate which category of cerp you are achieving so that you are sure to get all the requirements out of the way. i believe you can also get credit for other education you may be aquiring along the way, but i would definitely be sure to get approval from the aacn at the time, so you don't end up having to get a bunch of extra cerps before you get your recertification. they do it by honor, except that a certain amount of people per year will be audited.

i hope that answers your question! and welcome to our little thread!!

please use us as fully as you want and there are always new people finding this thread who are in the process of studying, it is a great way to stay motivated and empowered. :p:p:p
