Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Right on!
Edit: After looking at the AACN website i definitely stand corrected:

I think I may have heard that ER xp doesn't count from someone in my unit.....some of that unit "racism" that certain people tend to have that says "if you don't do ICU you're nobody".
I float to ER, I know what it's like; if you're not on your toes you'll be overwhelmed.
Hi everybody,
I am posting some information that RuralRn sent to me via a personal message. Look for a personal message from me as well:
This is the site you need to go;

This is good.
I am having trouble finding you, Leslie found you, so you be best to send me the note to my e-mail, until I get with the program.

Wow!!!! Awesome! Thanks!
Good luck to all you studying for CCRN!
I HIGHLY recommend Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio's material. I even went to see her live and she is more awesome in person!!!
When I took my exam in March 2006, I had a LOT of questions about Swan's and hemodynamics...what do the readings mean and what should be done to fix them. So, my advice is know your swan stuff!!

Thanks so much for the encouragement. Can you speak to how getting the CCRN has empowered your practice? How "accepted" is it at your facility?
I believe all 7 of us have Laura's DVDs and she is awesome!! She will be in MN in October, not for CCRN review, but I definitely want to see her. She is such a great advocate and voice for all of us.
I wish there was more of you who are already CCRN certified that would share what it has been like to have the certificate.

Yea, I'd like to know as well. There are no benefits in my hospital to taking the test other than the knowledge gained.......I'm basically doing it to elevate my critical thinking and autonomy (which is important for a night shift ICU nurse....with little support other than co-workers....)
Hi ElizabethJRN!
Laura is coming to the area:
October 6, 2007
Bloomington, MN
Fluid Mgm't, Endocrine Complications & SVT vs VT Contact: MANA
(651) 341-0068.
This is from her website. I haven't called the contact. I wonder if that is supposed to be MNA?
Also to get the Avatar, you can copy anything from anywhere and copy to your computer and it will give it a file name and then to load the avatar you just find that file and it will magically appear!! You copy a photo the same as text, just have the cursor on the top left part and hold down your mouse key and drag over the photo and release, then right click and I believe it is save to or send to and save it to your computer and it will give it a file name.
I think you have to be a paid member, but it is only$30 a year.

Hey Rural RN!
ER experience counts...this is from the AACN website:
"The CCRN exam is for nurses who work at the bedside of acutely or critically ill patients, regardless of the setting (includes areas such as ICU, CCU, Emergency Department, Trauma Unit, Interventional Radiology/Cardiology, and Critical Care Transport/Flight)."
You can also register online, which is faster, I got my postcard to test within about a week...go here to register online:
https://my.aacn.org/ecomtpro/timssnet/certifications/aacn_certifications.cfm
And I am also jealous you get to go to her review session!!
deeDawntee~ I am studying in sections. I concentrated on cardiac for awhile until I was really getting it. Now I have moved onto respiratory. Of course I will go back to cardiac :) But I do better studying in sections, so as not to get too overwhelmed
Gotta get back to work I guess!!
