Anyone else hate the online job application process??

Call me old school, but I worked hard on my resume and cover letters. Why do I have to type in all the information AGAIN when it's all on the resume you just let me upload?? If there is a spot that lets you do that of course. UGH. Just frustrated because it takes so long. Anyone else have an opinion?

In 38 years of nursing, I have never gotten a job through an online application. I can't even get someone to respond past the canned e-mail that says my application was received. Whenever I need a job (every two years or so) I just start calling my friends. The company where I work has even lost my online application for a promotion to be my own boss. That's right I saw a job posting on line for a supervisor for my department, so I applied, and my app is gone! Yikes. Several other people applied and no one has been called for an interview. This has been going on for four months!

Online apps are so impersonal. Even if you have completed everything properly, you have to wonder where it is going to end up. I think this is part of the reason people continue to search for work. These online resumes get lost and land in a vortex. Who knows?

I especially liked the website where I filled out the entire application (45 minutes) and then an error message came up and told me it couldn't send the email!! I called HR and they said they only take online applications, LOL!! Gotta laugh or you'll cry I guess.

It's just so impersonal.

So, I got sick of it and decided to take some action!

I went and asked to see the manager of a residential place here and she wasn't there. I wasn't going to take no for an answer, and asked to put in an application - I wanted her email (I got HRs email but didn't know that at the time).

I got an email to send in an application, ie: what I had to do & got the job.

I also rang and persisted in speaking to the NUM of a large, teaching hospital & she encouraged me to send in an application. It's so nice to speak to someone face to face.

So be bold and go for it and be persistent I say! Tell all the managers how their online systems suck - cos that's what I did! And it seems to work.
