I am in Indiana and a new company just took over our monitoring program. We were sent an email last week that effective immediately we were to start using the GPS tool on our monitoring app to check at a meeting (NA, AA, NSG) and starting soon there would be a check out button as well. How in the world is this legal?? I feel like this is invasion of privacy and so does my counselor! I voluntarily signed up for this crap but I have not given permission to be tracked!
I had the same vision! Reasoning says, make a determination of what the Nurse Recovery Program is for? Is it punishment or a program to lift, help, encourage and support. I have actually heard a top member of a Nurse Recovery Program say, 'It is to protect the community.' No, that is what the Board does, etc., your job is ensure the recovery program is used the purpose of recovery. When someone is non-compliant, then you inform the Board. Too much power given to people who should be understanding what REHAB is: 'To make new again.'
To add more salt to the wounds...I just found out that they are wanting to require no bedside nursing for one year and require all to get Vivotrol injections in order to work on the floor...this has not been acted upon but these are in the works for what their wanting. We are also going to be required to drive to Chesterton once a year for evaluations í ½í¹„
Hey RN0904, who are they? I am sending a proposal to the Indiana Legislature before they reconvene. I also send a copy to someone in the US Congress. Give me a little more information, where, who, etc. I have to verify first. If this is in the making...the line will have been crossed, BIGTIME!

IPRP - Indiana Professionals Recovery Program
I had thought about contacting the ACLU.
Ok...The Indiana Senate governs Nurses in that state. I would suggest sending your Senator a step by step recreation of what you heard and experienced. The Senate is looking, so I suggest starting there first. Then if the ACLU is your next choice, you will have your written statement to your Senator. Just like anything, it's a process. The Indiana Board of Nursing monitors the Indiana Recovery Program. There is a Director over the IPLA. That could be an option also. Tread lightly, and be specific. Proposing a solution would be a great option. That shows you have thought the process out, understanding why their solution has flaws and would not benifit true rehab for Nurses. My wish, is that Nurses who honestly need rehabilitation get true rehab. What worries me is when 'money', that All Nurses who have a license in Indiana, contribute to is used more for 3rd parties than for what our State Laws say it is for. Good Luck!
It seems that is what we are led to believe; just do it. What if Nurses, all Nurses, took a stand saying what actually works with having some form of control over the profession we work in. Too many years it 'has' been where Nurses feel there isn't a choice. Working together with other Nurses, becoming more proactive for our profession = positive change. Understanding what our outcome will be when we aren't involved or have an understanding; will open eyes and cause true change for the betterment of our Nursing profession. My Rant!

Any of you with android should look into rooting your phone and installing a "GPS Mock" app. It spoofs your location so when you spoof it to the AA meeting and then check in it looks like you're at the meeting.
