I recently submitted my application to UAB FNP program starting May 2015. Just wondering if anyone else has applied as well?? If so, from which state do you live? I am from NE Florida. I hope to meet/network with other prospective students for this program. Though I'm excited it's an online program, I think I will miss the peer to peer banter! Fingers crossed on acceptance!
My name is Shane. I am from south Alabama close to Montgomery. I live in a very rural area with less than 10K people. I want to do the FNP route that way I can treat all ages of patients. I also applied to the USA Fall BSN-DNP for 2015. I also applied to the MSN FNP at USA for Summer 2015. They said they will review my application for the BSN-DNP first and then if I do not get accepted they will review it for the MSN. I am married with four fuzzy children (Chihuahuas) I am almost done with my Masters in Nursing Education. I hope that helps my chances! I want to teach part time as well.
I applied for the dual Adult-Gerontology/Women's Health tract. Also on my application I listed FNP as my 2nd choice.
I am from central Mississippi, about an hour north of Jackson, MS. I'm located about 3 hours west of Birmingham.
Those of you that mentioned applying to USA. Is that University of South Alabama?
SO glad I found this thread! I was hoping I would find out acceptance or non acceptance before late December!!
University of South Alabama (USA). I have heard some good and bad. I applied anyway. They do not require GRE, MAT, or references. If you apply to the BSN-DNP you have to submit a personal letter. I just received an email stating that my stats class is sufficient!!! I checked on my application to waive the MAT or GRE. Hopefully we will hear something soon!! I would absolutely faint if I got into this program. My essay was not the greatest but maybe it will do.
When I called to find out why I was not accepted, I was told that my GPA was a little lower than the average candidate (3.2) and that a little bit more experience would make me more competitive. At the time of my application I had about 8 months of Peds ICU experience and about a year of Adult CV Stepdown experience. (It would have been a year of Peds by the time the program started). So now I will have 2 years experience when the program starts and I also have some more things on my resume (joined a committee between our ED and ICU and became a preceptor.) Hopefully I get in but I don't have all my eggs in one basket this time.
Of note, when I called and talked to CB, the program admissions coordinator, she told me that they always had far more applicants for the Fall semester than they do for the Summer semester start. So I hope that it works in our favor. Good luck!
That makes me more nervous! I have been a nurse less than 6 months. However, I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counseling. I have worked at a psychiatric facility for over 10 years as a mental health therapist, performed psychosocial admission assessments, audited charts for CMS, worked in utilization review, financial counseling, direct patient care and been in management. I hope that helps. My GPA is bordeline but my essay and references are solid. Oh well, guess all I can do is wait.....

You already applied USA for Summer 2015? I didn't know they were accepting applications this early. I was going to wait until after I heard from UAB. When do you expect to hear from USA?
I applied to Dual Option Pediatric NP Program early October and also waived the GRE. I currently am from Atlanta, Georgia and work at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. spreadnthelove -- where do you work in Jacksonville? I am in the process of relocating there and just applied for my Florida license. I am hoping to get on at Wolfsons. I am also excited to hear back something soon from UAB. How do we know if our Statistics class is compatible? I looked mine up but it just told me a different name for it at UAB. Does that mean it transfers?
