Hi Everyone, If you are an applicant for the spring, I just got off the phone with admissions, and the committee is meeting thursday and fridaythis week with admissions decisions coming next week. FYI:yeah:

Congrats on getting accepted! I am in the second cohort of this program, started in January. I know the first cohort is set to graduate in Oct. of this year...so they will be the first. I am 6 days away from the end of my first semester! Make sure you take a vacation or do something fun before you start because it will consume your life! It is challenging but manageable as long as you DO NOT procrastinate...there is no room for falling behind since it is so fast paced. Nervous & excited is just how I felt before starting and I feel like that about starting my second semester too! Best of luck & again...Congrats! :yeah:

Hi there - I am a first semester Spring cohort student. How did your summer semester go? I have been hearing stuff.... a little nervous about that. Aside from that though, how was the rest of the program?

Well I'm assuming the "stuff" you heard was about my summer semester and that's why you're scared. It was the most horrendous semester of my life...it was just too much to do in such a short semester. I should have been graduating this March but b/c of that semester I am now graduating a semester later in Aug.

The reason why it was so bad other than the semester being shorter than reg. spring or fall was pharmacology. It was horribly organized, we had numerous assignments and discussion postings that just took up time (that we didn't have) and took away from the little time we had to study. And studying for exams is much more important than doing those stupid assignments. The exams are so incredibly hard...you must REALLY UNDERSTAND the material not memorize it and we just didn't have the time to do so. We also had clinical, A&C Illness, Maternal health... a lot of challenging material. The pharm. professor was pretty impossible too :angryfire

My summer semester unfortunately we got screwed, literally...we got held back which pushed graduation farther out, added thousands of dollars to our debt (for an additional 5 mos. of school) and really brought down our spirit. But, don't be scared. We were like the guinea pigs. We were only the 2nd cohort ever (since the program was still new) and we were the first cohort to take those classes in the shorter summer semester. 12 students failed and some dropped out of the program. But as a result of what happened to us the modules were restructred for pharm to make the material a bit more tolerable and most of the tedious misc. assignments were taken away. It's still a hard course but it's doable. Just focus, learn the material (don't memorize!) and do not slack off at all and you'll do fine. ;)

BEST OF LUCK!!!

This thread has been helpful and so encouraging. I know National is pricey, but I feel that it's a decent school and a 14 month program is amazing. I finished my bachelor's degree in 07', and am looking to start this program next year once I finish up the prereq's. I am terrified of chemistry, physiology and anatomy, but I can do it! I'm nervous but excited. The wait lists and acceptance rates at other colleges are just ridiculous. I have a better feeling about National. A woman in their San Diego office just told me they have an acceptance rate of 1:3. I can work with that.

Hi,

The OU San Diego program is closing in 2011 and the Spring cohort is the last one for the program. We have heard rumors that there will be another school taking over the program but nothing concrete yet. Good Luck with your nursing degree!

That's not great news...

I am interested in the OU as well. Chatted with representative from OU Accelerated BSN Progam in San Diego on December 15, 2009. I was told that SDSU will be taken over the OU Nursing Program. This program will go through SDSU and the cost of the program is $42,800 compare to previous of $32,000. It consists of 60% online, and 40% clinical. Be aware that SDSU does not provide office or facility for you to use the online courses. it will be done at your personal computer. I need some responses from others out there that are interested in the OU and to confirm the information i got are accurate and current

The work are still in progress with the transition of SDSU taken over the program. More information about when the deadline will be for the upcoming summer is still up in the air. It is a week to week basis when it comes to information going from SDSU to OU BSN Program to the applicants

Brandon2002-

I had also been looking into the OU program...I have a meeting with SDSU to discuss their acquisition of the Accelerated BSN program this Friday (December 18th). If you'd like, I can post here after I meet with them and let you know what information I am given at my meeting?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they haven't changed the pre-req's or I am going to be extremely bitter :angryfire

Mrslukie---

Please do keep me posted on your finding. I am very curious what they will have in stock for us. As far as the pre-req's, i have a hunch they might do some modification so only a certain applicants can qualify. if you dont mind, send me an update.

Ok, cant figure this site out yet. Anyhoo, I was trying to respond to a response I received re: the OU accelerated nursing program in San Diego that no longer exists and now SDSU is not going forward with program. I did hear that they are currently setting up basically the same program from a CA college. They would not say which college until the details are pinned down, but its a sure go. Anyone have the inside scoop of which college they are working with (its going to be one of two being considered). They wouldnt tell me, so thought someone on the sight might know? The info is formally going to be released in Dec sometime.

Also, someone on here mentioned that the job market is terrible right now for nurses in San Diego. Is that right??? I'd sure like to know that early on.

All comments/input greatly appreciated.
